Lunar outpost

That's right, NASA is going to try and make a moon base after the space station is completed, What do you guys think of it? I think its a wast of resources, I think it would be much more worth while for NASA to focus on getting to Mars and establishing an outpost there.

Its much quicker and easier and cheaper to send robots to the Moon.

Also, relevent.

No, they should try and build a base on the moon before Mars.
What if they were to fuck up royally when they got to Mars?

Go small first and figure out how it's done.

I feel like a space station on the moon is more of a trial run before we start moving to other planets. We need the experience first.

Well the moon would be a better choice as the first outpost so that we can actually spend less money going to mars.Going to mars first without any data on what could happen would be pretty stupid.

Can you see this? Probably not. Douche.

While I feel that it may be a waste of resources currently, there may be a point where it can be a profitable operation, either through resource mining or through terraforming to bring life and a sustainable atmosphere. If the terraform operation works, it could solve some of our overpopulation problems through a mass move. This could be the beginning of something amazing.

I didn't suggest making an outpost on Mars on the first trip.

OK, it would be a test, I just don't see much use of the Base besides the test run.

As far as I know the moon doesn't have a lot of gravity, so that would be a great place to store fuel. Sure beats the hell out of defying the earths gravity.

But I don't know since I haven't actually been to the moon lol.

Conspiracy theories usually turn out too be wrong. The bureaucracy is so bogged down due to all their legal constraints that they don't have time to even think up a conspiracy much less execute it. If you're not willing to share your proof, then you can't support your claims. And I can prove to you that the Earth is round. If the earth was flat, anyone would be able to receive any radio signal no matter where it came from, as electromagnetic waves would go on infinitely in the same direction, unless obstructed. But since you cannot receive a radio wave from Russia in the US(excluding the possibility of Alaska). The Earth is round.

A long term base means more opportunity for drilling. Who knows what nifty shit we might find? Plus, test launching from a zero G environment. This could prove a huge success, as there's much less wasted fuel at launch for long term missions.

I think setting all that stuff up will take a very long time, much longer than the space station.

This is gonna be the refill station before we take the rest of the trip to Mars. The sooner they get a base there the sooner they get a theme park there, so hurry it up, and that is the extent of my interest on the subject, really.

I really doubt NASA is going to pull this off anywhere near the target date.

Not only that, the moon has mineral resources (Illemite, for example, contains oxygen, titanium and iron) that could be used to build a spacecraft capable of reaching mars.

It would be a stepping stone to get to mars, they stop on the moon, refuel and take off for mars, since the moon it less dense, and has a lower mass then earth it would be MUCH easier to take off on, thus we can easily get to mars and make a colony their.

Yeah, things never get don't according to the schedule at first, it would probably take longer to do it than expected, even if everything gets done right.

And I guess your right about taking off from the moon would be easier than from earth, but dont expect that to be done any time soon, there only talking about an outpost now.
