Its great whenever a "soccer" thread comes up. Makes me want to invest all my time in the US setting up soccer schools to teach them how to play soccer so they will love it and be playing it in the streets with plastic bottles half filled with water when they cant find a ball. It's called soccer as a shortening of association football. This term arose in ENGLAND.

Some won't believe me when I say this, but Soccer is the most physically demanding of all sports. You got a bunch of guys running around a field for 90 minutes and there are little substitutions. Unlike football where you get a break every couple of minutes. The old school football players say they laugh at the ones we have now.
I've seen Rugby too, and they only reason why they regulate it is because it just be a rage infused fist fest. I prefer to watch Hockey if I want to see a fight.
I only watched a few Soccer games and I have to say, I respect them.

Very true, they can't do half the things they used to! Cant shoulder tackle, cant go in with both feet etc then you get all the arsehole that dive, which is just an embarrassment. But if you play the game with your friends all day its fine, we used to play for hours non stop. Literaly just running around for hours hacking lumps out of each other, was great fun! Drop kicks and all.

Why does America always get put down because its not as popular here? We like different things than most other countries, such as Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey, etc. Don't get me wrong I like soccer, but why is America getting dissed for not favoring it?

While i love soccer and was brought up around the sport it's not as popular here as it is Europe. Mainly because Americans have gotten used to having Football and Nascar that they dont want another sport to try to fit in.
