Past or future? 2009-03-06 15:57:45 Reply

If you had a chance to get back in time to the 1800s or the 1900s or go forwards into time to the year 3000 or 4000 , which would you choose?

I personally would go forwards into time to the year 4000 , because life will be easier in the future , and it's not just because of our highly advanced technology , but also because of our new form that we will recieve after we evolve in the year 3006 , so which would you prefer? The past or future?

Yeah you can read about the past in textbooks but you can't look into the future.

Thats a funn story actually....It happened to me. Here is my tale!

One day when i came home at lunchtime,
i heard a funny noise
went out to the back yard to find out if it was,
one of those rowdy boys.
Stood there was my neighbour called Peter,
and a Flux Capacitor.

He told me he built a time machine
like the one in a film i've seen,
yeah yeah.... He said...

I've been to the year three thousand
not much has changed but they lived under water
and your great great great grand daughter,
is pretty fine......she's pretty fine.

How the fuck is that equivalent at all? Travel back One or two hundred years, or a couple of milleniums forward.

As far as Technology is concerned, traveling 1000 years forward would be like going back to cavemen.

I'd go in the past. Don't you have things you might have wanted to do way back when, that you couldn't? Well this would be a good opportunity. I mean who really cares about the future? None of us will be there anyway.

How do they like the future? No-one has ever been to the future, so they can not like it. They can like what they THINK will happen in the future, but you can never go to the future!

Future...after you're dead though. There is no need to change how you'll grow up to be. Your time must be on it's regular course.

I will go back to the 1800s or 1900s for several reasons

1. I speak English (I doubt the English language will still exist thousands of years from now)
2. My knowledge would be primitive by future standards
3. I know how a lot of modern technology works so I could go back in time to design that technology and sell it to become extremely rich and eventually conquer the world.

I agree. Reading a 400 year old French text is hard, even if I know all the words, simply for the reason the sentence structure is awkward. So talking a language from a millennium before would be hard.

I was about to say future, but with my good track record on historical knowledge, I'd go to the past and exploit events in my personal favor... And maybe save history just to screw up things currently. What do you think would happen if I stopped the Kennedy assassinations (Yes, both), OH NO! "JFK" or "Bobby" wouldn't be produced, big loss.... I'd also invest in oil the railroads in the late 1800s and sell off ALL my stocks the day before Black Friday (The start of the Great Depression) and laugh at all the people living in their shantytowns while living in the lap of luxury... And if my profits begin to dwindle by the 40s, I'd invest in the future of the television... Yeah, I have this ALL thought out.

There's a million other things I'd exploit... Give me an event and I'll explain how I'll exploit it!

Probably go back to the 1990's, simply for the nostalgia.

I really wouldn't want to go to the future, because for all we know, the year 4000 may have seen the apocalypse already.

the paradox theory is assuming that time is linear- if it isn't, then your presence in the past, and anything you do, will have no effect on the future.
