Didn't the U.S. say this years ago, or am I thinking of Iraq?

Even if they have the material, will they build a nuclear weapon?

If you really know the background of fallout, you should know that the whole wasteland is a result of a nuclear war. Not a few nukes; that's Japan.

And after WWIII, it will be people like you to be first with their backs against the wall when the revolution comes...

The United States has the most nuclear weapons of any nation in the world, and we're the only ones who have ever used them. Can we really criticise Iran for having one nuke when we have over 40,000?
If we're going to criticise another country for their nuclear program, then maybe it's time we disarm our nukes.

ITT alarmist bullshit
Even if Iran has the necessary materials for nukes that doesn't mean they're going to make enough to cause a nuclear fucking winter.
Let's say they DO make nukes, and the U.S. ends up in a standoff with Iran. We did the same thing with Russia in the cold war, and it lasted decades. No nukes were fired at any enemies of either side. Just because a country can make nukes or already has nukes does not mean that the nukes will be used. The U.S. is the only country in history to use a nuclear device in a war. Several other countries have nukes, and none of them have used any of them to attack anyone since 1945.
And before anyone says that Iran is going to use the nukes to blow up Israel, shut the fuck up. Iran would never nuke Israel, because that would obliterate the Holy Land and defeat the purpose of even having it. Even if Ahmahdinejad (sp?) was crazy enough to want to nuke Israel, the Ayatollah would NEVER allow it, as the world's Islamic community would heavily condemn such an action.

It's a good thing that Iran has nukes. Now the US and Israel will think twice before bombing them.

even if it's true, so does pakistand and india and a bunch of other countries...
also, if they do have nukes, as much as let them sniff outside it wouldn't take more than a couple of hours to turn all of iran into a glass-crater. the amount of nukes the US have in their disposal is just ridiculous.

The scary thing is, I don't think that most people in the U.S. would know that. We glaze over important details like that, and we could have easily avoided going into Iraq if people had stopped to think. Here's why:
The Bush administration used two points to lead the public into war: 1) Iraq had WMDs and 2) Saddam was in league with Osama Bin Laden and Al Quaida.
The WMD thing wouldn't be easy to disprove using only rational thought, but the U.N. inspectors should have been enough to make most people skeptical.
However, the second thing should have set off a red flag in most people. Here's the thing: Saddam would NEVER ally with Islamic fundamentalists, because he felt threatened by them. One of his biggest fears was losing his rule to Islamic fundamentalists. That's why he attacked Iran after the Iranian fundamentalist revolution- to prevent the idea of Islamic fundamentalism spreading into Iraq. The U.S. and Iraq were actually informal allies with Iraq at this point, because we both had a common enemy in Iran (what with the Iran-Contra events). Hell, there's old pictures of Donald Rumsfeld with Saddam. The idea of Saddam helping Bin Laden, one of the biggest threats to his power, is ludicrous. But no one seemed to realize it at the time.

Again, NEVER knew that! That's amazing how Americans including me trust our Government enough to start war which shouldn't have begun in the first place.

I know I sound like one of those annoying American cunts, but i'm pretty sure everyone with any Nuclear bombs has more than 1. Its really not that much of a threat.
To be blunt, they fire one, we shoot it down and spam them with hundereds.

See, I didn't always know this. It took some internal questioning and independent research. I never believed that Saddam was involved with 9/11, but I didn't even know most of this stuff at the time, and I was skeptical pretty much just because I was a pessimistic kid and didn't believe the Bush administration at all.
I'm no conspiracy theorist, and I'm not saying that the American government is out to conquer the world, but I AM saying that the general American public needs to stop relying on only what the news and press releases say and form their own opinions. Look at history books, research critical figures, read congressional documents that affect your life, etc. It's about being a responsible citizen.

Iran doesn't want a nuke because they think they could attack the US with it. They want one, because they know no-one sane messes with nuclear nations, and also, they know that Israel has one, and if they get one, they enter the nuclear stalemate.
Now, I don't support Iran's campaign to get nuclear weapons, considering the general level of agression in the region, but I understand why they want one, and personally think that if the arabs can't have one, neither should Israel.

Geographically speaking, Iran would have no chance in a nuclear contest with the U.S., and I'm not saying that out of nationalism, I'm saying it out of fact.
America is so much bigger than Iran and the population here is som much more spread out, Iran would need decades to build enough nukes to cover even 10% of our area, while the U.S. has enough nukes left over from the cold war to blanket the entirety of Iran several times over in a matter of days. Even if Iran went for NYC or D.C. first, you can bet money that the U.S. government is watching Iran via satellite and other methods at all times, so we'll know if they're launching anything with enough time to initiate evacuations and/or nuke interceptors. Hell, Iran would need to have the capabilities to either fire a nuke over the fucking ocean or send bombers to drop the bomb, and we can definitely handle bombers. As for a nuke launcher, those are hard to hide, and we'd know if they were building one.
Iran wouldn't stand a chance, even if they launched first. They could definitely kill a lot of Americans, I won't deny that- but we could wipe them out so easily, it wouldn't even be funny. I'm sure that the Iranian government realizes this- they're not idiots- so I would be absolutely shocked if they were stupid enough to try to face off with the United States.
