White History Month?

Well we all should of heard of Black History Month. It is celebrated every year and it is a time when people of an African or Carrabian origin have the oppurtunity to be proud their history and heritage as well as the chance to remeber those who died for cause of equal rights. I have always thought that it would be great if we had White History month as both English and Americans have an amazing history. As countrys we have been through tough times and it would be great if for one month we could celebrate the great things we have accomplished. So what do you think?

If you live in America , and prob the UK as well, the majority of your history classes are going to be centered around the history of country. Because BOTH these countries are white majority, the majority of the history told is going to be about "white" accomplishments. The fact that ANY ethnic group should be treated any different from any other is stupid. I understand why there is a black history month, but to say we need a whit history month is ignorant and trivial.

Personally, I think there should either be a multicultural month or a month about the fight for equality of all the subjugated groups in this country. Black history month was poorly planned and an obvious "let's throw the protesters a bone so they'll shut up" initiative.

only perpetuates the idea that black people need specialized attention separated and segmented from normal society. of course, because their blackness makes them different.

I think thats the problem with any "race" related issue. People for some reason see "black" placed in front of something and get enraged saying, "why isn't there a WHITE version of (fill in blank)?" I don't know why people are so ignorant in these issues.

The reason for the month is not for them to separate themselves. One of it purposes is to show people who try to separate them, because they "different", that we are all the same.

there isn't just black history month as a celebration, but all sort of ethnic groups have these huge celebrations to be proud of so why don't we start a celebration for white people
although octoberfest is a German celebration its already close enough.

Racism is not "making a race a determining factor in something," it's "discriminating (negative DEFINITION, not CONNOTATION) because of race."

They have this month because of the UNDER REPRESENTATION of acknowledgment of black achievement in society. It's for RAISING AWARENESS, so as to FIGHT prejudice.

The social implications and political maneuvers surrounding this issue go FAR deeper than "well shucks all races should have a history month durrr."

i disagree. racism's core definition is letting the race of a person be a determining factor in their personal quality. I.E., that person is black therefore he must da da da. it doesn't even have to be negative. i could say that guy is indian, he must know a lot about medical science. that would be racist. because of this, anytime you single out a bunch of people solely because of their race and give them attention based partly on their race(kudos, criticism, anything) you are being racist. maybe not prejudice. but racist.

We don't need a white history month... but we don't need a black one either.

We should just learn about people who did things in history and complely ignore the color of their skin. Seperating history based on skin color only further teaches our youth that skin color does indeed matter.

If we want everyone to be equal then everybody should be treated equally. That means no special months dedicated to any race... you should learn about Harriet Tubman the same week you learn about slavery... regardless of what month it is.
