One of the biggest challenges with this was populating the ship with things that a crew living on the ship would need; Beds, chairs, dining table, a galley and more. I Thought about downloading some premade furniture pieces that I decided to google up, but in the end I wanted to make my own. Sadly the majority of my made pieces were nowhere near the quality of the ones I saw online, but at least these are mine and all mine.
So here is my simple, rough layout.
Space Ship 598-314
The 598-314 was smaller ship that was designed and implemented for the war of the asteroid belt that stretched from the Mesh System to the Polar System and back. The 314 was intended to be a small long range scouting ship. Being a scout the ship was given minimum fire power and a small but fast engine. The ship could easily out run many opposing fighters and frigates since even dog fighting was very much out of the question unless a ace pilot was behind the wheel; and even then he would need a good plan, an opportunity of surprise and all the luck he could manage to scrounge up.
Although lacking in power, the nimbleness of the 314 was rated as one of the top 5 created in the last 200 years. It was not uncommon for good fighter pilots to dive in to wreckage or asteroid belts to escape or to lure in much larger unmatched opponents and take them out in using their agility or even letting the passing rocks do the job for them.
The ship has two parts, the flight deck and the living quarters. The two could be separated at any time. Most of the time if the two were disconnected it was because the hull on one side or the other were damages and preparing to implode. The living quarters housed the main engine and life support. If a crew were to escape in to this section of the ship they have minimum steering capabilities, but could last for a long time drifting through space, hoping a friendly ship picked up their distress signal. The cockpit on the other hand was a much different story. Very little fuel was stored in here and it had a very weak life support system. The advantage of being stranded in the cockpit is full communication systems and the ability to pilot without much difference than if the ship was whole. With this much advantage you could quickly try and get to a space port or attempt a landing on a suitable planet; that is, if the life support holds.
Despite the drawbacks of the ships capabilities of an actual combat vessel, out of the 1500 that were created for the war and the 1431 that were implemented, only 6 were shot down on missions and only 2 crews were lost. This earned the ship a reputation of a lucky ship.
After the war the governments involved had no use for the 314, the original plans were to scrap the scout, but due to almost everyone else doing practically the same thing with hundreds of other ship models, the government fount that it was cheaper to remove what guns it had and resell them at a cheap price to the people.
Thanks to the reputation the ship earned and the price, the citizens looking for a way to get themselves around threw the emptiness of space snatched them up readily.
The ship couldn't hold a large crew, a minimum of 4 people needed to maintain it and could hold up to 20 people, but it was perfect for smaller crews to handle and even make a living transporting people as a shuttle service.
Although many people were running legitimate business, some took the ships and found ways to refit them with similar models to their old guns or new ones all together and used them as bandits across the stars.
As time progressed the ship faded in to history. Over time more and more of the ships were scrapped or destroyed by bandits or the cosmos. What few are left are getting harder and harder to find parts for or have newer, lesser engines replace the old ones. Some captains have custom parts made to keep the old engine running breaks, having a good mechanic has become a standard now with the 314s engine, but if well maintained, the ship rarely breaks down.
just flooding my thread today aren't I?
anyway I submitted a bigger picture of the ship, hopefully some of the bumps and bruises are a little clearer.
Do not fret, it is a friendly giant, friendly and benevolent...

Make sure you don't burn out when you get to it.

maybe I'll get lucky and light'em up before I take off

IT's not white.... it's cream colored..... or is that eggshell >.>..... can't remember..... :P
Anyway
messing around with that bump map.... looks like the hull is about to collapse on it's self
I also goofed around in photoshop with it, thus proving that some times I just wander in to a program poking with a stick
and that I'm dodging work again.....
