I thought Slumdog Millionaire was a well executed film that deserved the recognition that it recieved, especially for a film revolving around an ethnic culture.

I also think that Heath Ledger absolutely deserved his award. And I'm sure just about everyone else in Perth would agree with me.

I don't usually follow the Oscars, but a quick look at the results, and I'm not at all disappointed.

Slumdog Millionair cleaned up; glad to see Danny Boyle win Best Director. I was also glad to see Heath Ledger win Best Supporting Actor.

I was really hoping for a win by Mickey Rourke, but I can't take anything away from Sean Penn, he's too good of an actor.

Is it because she played a Nazi?

She's long overdue for an Oscar.

If ever she deserved one it was for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

I would have thought it was fairly good logic that he would win it.
As everyone knew he would anyway.
Although, he REALLY did deserve it. LONG LIVE THE JOKER

Heath deserved to win for sure. I'm usually not impressed by actors, but I was pretty blown away with Heath as The Joker. When I heard Heath Ledger was going to be The Joker I was like "WTF?" because I wasn't a big fan of Heath. I guess he was okay in Brokeback Mountain, etc, but he always seemed kind of quiet and dull. When I watched The Dark Knight I couldn't believe it was Heath Ledger. The Joker was such an awesome character many people had to go back and see the Dark Knight multiple times. If that's not reason enough to win an Oscar I don't know what is.

Not really actually. I'm not a big fan of the Oscars, I just know she lost out to Swank.

One of my favourite films ever though.

Sunshine, not Million Dollar Baby.

I didn't in fear of jinxing it, that's why I used "applied pessimism" so that in the end it's dead guarentee.

Sean Penn (even though he probably flat out deserved the award, though I probably will never see that movie since I don't agree with what Harvey Milk did to San Francisco ) is an asshole. Stupid dick had to make it political, I wish he would've just been classy, said thank you and walked off the stage. His whole speech pissed me off (not because what it stood for), but because an awards ceremony isn't where you state your political views.

Sean Penn as the best actor in a Leading Role was a huge surprise, I thought Mickey Rourke would take that award as well.

too be honest they both deserved one, but "Milk" had a much deeper meaning to it which the academy normally likes in a film, and Penn has been in the public eye more than Rouwke (I can't spell his name)
Mickey probably did deserve it more though. He is pretty awesome

I was surprised Slumdog Millionaire won all those awards. But then again, I'm not so surprised, because the Academy tends to choose unknown, non-blockbuster movies (which I think is a reason why The Dark Knight didn't get nominated for best picture, director, or screenplay). I haven't seen Slumdog myself, but maybe it did deserve all the awards it received.

Actually it's a toss-up between those two.

How was Slumdog unknown??
Danny Boyle is a well known British Director, it was so hyped up it was untrue.
(This is especially for UK teens this part) The lead was in Skins! So it had that appeal to see if he acts better on the big screen (which he did)
It was a worldwide success and it's unknown??

Well, maybe calling Slumdog "unknown" is a slight exaggeration, but many people haven't even heard of the title until just recently. It's been overshadowed by many other movies.

Not only that, the film nearly ended up as "direct-to-video"
