So this guy Bob, Robert Pelloni, developed a game over a span of 5 years. The game was developed entirely by himself and had little to no experience with games other than C++. His game, Bob's Game, is an RPG where you solve puzzles and explore new areas as opposed to battling and killing monsters as in most RPGs. Your main goal I believe is to collect games for your handheld gameplayer and play them and eventually enter a tournament where the final boss is Bob himself.
Upon nearly completing this game, bob submitted it to Nintendo for a Developer's kit to port it over to the DS. Unfortunately it was "rejected" for approval by Nintendo. So should this game have been approved or should it stay homebrew? I personally think this dude deserves a little recognition for such dedication. Check it out for yourself:

He's going on a 100 day strike against Nintendo...and mainly against Reggie. He usually posts something once a week on his website/blog bobsgame.com
I'm really anxious to get my hands on this game. I want to try it out so bad!

That's better than 90% of the shit Nintendo puts out graphic-wise.
Although I can't give a thumbs-up until I get a story and some video of those puzzles he was talking about, I would still give it a go.

You're a bit behind the times. Maybe playing an insane man's game would be fun.

BOB is obviously an egotistical maniaic. He decided he would make a game ALL on his own, without thinkiing about getting it liscensed my ninento in the first place, didn't get any help probably for his title of a game made all by himself, then makes a protest against nintendo that lasts 40 days, then he goes and gets the cops called on him at the nintendo of america store, and THEN he claims he's in a spaceship.

How sad. How very sad. Poor Bob. I bet his game was great. What ever happened to him? Where is he now?

This game looks pretty awesome, how could Nintendo reject his awesome game yet accept all that crapola that after a couple of days ends up in the bargain bin?

Bob is probably still at home working at writing tons of h8 mail to Nintendo...heck I would be too after working my @$$ off for 5 years. Not to mention selling my own plasma for spare cash.

Same reason that Puzzle Quest struggled like fuck to get a publisher the first time, just because it's a good product doesn't make it a guaranteed hit. All of the publisher's loved it, and asked for copies, but didn't want to take a risk.
The crap in the bargain bins sells because it has a cast iron target audience. Kids usually.
Whereas Bob's game doesn't, so it's too much of a risk, even if Nintendo liked it.

It's decent, but it doesn't look good enough for a DS title. It looks boring and pointless to be honest.
It could be fun, but it looks dated. Maybe he should apply for a WiiWare thing or some form of XBox Live distribution. If anything, publish it for the PC. Release it online and publish it himself... he's already gotten all the PR he needs. If his game is fun, word of mouth would carry it from there.
Maybe if the DL sales pick up, Nintendo might finally give in to his demands.

i agree this looks pointless and to even say you play this game you may have issues. its like saying you "play" playstation home or "play" second life. the point of video games is to be over the top or in a fantasy world not to be limited to the same things in the world you are living. i guess when im crippled and paralyzed from the armpits down i will play this.

i havent played bobs game but it looks like you are a teenager walking around all day with no property besides a game player and nobody recognizes you or cares about you. that could be real life.
in sims..you make your house however you like, you can start fights with people, have sex with people, kill people(take the ladder away from the pool while they swim), also you could starve them. thats not how you are meant to play it, but you can play it like that "over the top" in bobs game, you walk around, possibly no option to do anything "over the top" besides walk anywhere you want and look at secrets. thats just an amazing opportunity huh?

Nintendo does not reject licensing to games if they suck. They will only reject licensing if the fees are not paid. It seems that BOB is a greedy fuck that can't shell out a couple of bucks for his game.
That's my opinion anyhow.

The only thing is, you haven't seen much of the game you're casting judgment upon, but many games have very simple base ideas, but perform magnificently with them
If you are right to assume it is a teenager striving to fit in etc, then there's one of its key selling points there. It can relate to an audience, which is a very powerful asset.
Games don't need guns and death races to constitute people's attention, some of the most popular games of all time prove that. (and it's not just exclusive to games, films etc that relate to real life scenarios are popular also), Games are just behind the times in exploiting the extraordinary out of the ordinary.

I can agree with that, but you have to remember, he's just ONE guy. How much money does he have to give them?

Yeah I know though nintendo should of gave the game at least some thought it reminds me of gameavision off of code monkeys when they turned down several good ideas.

Why wouldn't he just use XNA and sell it as a community game on XBL? If 'Rumble Massage' can be the second most popular download, then this would have been a best seller!

Just a couple thousand. If he had really worked for 5 years on that game, he should have squirreled enough away, or gotten a bank loan. If he didn't even know that he had to pay for a licensing fee, then he is a complete moron.
Oh, and he would have also needed a dev kit. DS doesn't take C++.
I can't believe that some of you are defending this guy. He is simply an entrepreneur that didn't think things through. Nintendo is a business. You have to fill out the right forms, and pay the fee. Did Bob do either of those things?
