Wonder what happens if you put them all together.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Futurama, I suppose that counts.

Big fan of Blade Runner and Logan's Run too, but they aren't really a series

If you're willing to read, I'd go with most things by Asimov. Foundation series was good, as was the novel I Robot.

Someone once asked me why I call myself Unimportant. Simple, I said. As a nihilist, that's what I see everyone and everything as. In the end, we are all Unimportant.

2001: A Space Odessey or The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy (The book or the Radio Series, not the movie)

2001: A Space Odessey for a serious Sci-Fi.

FLASH GORDON- The theme song is catchy.
Stargate- Another captivating and original series and movie.

2001: Space Odyssey sucked nuts. It was a total snore-fest even at it's peak.

The movie, that is. I'm sure the book was miles better.

Why wouldn't anime fall into it? You said science fiction. So it could be any form of animation, video game, book, lore, anything.

Haven't seen the movie, but agree on the book. Clarke does write some good hard sci-fi (though it's a bit hilarious, especially if you read the later installations to the series, to notice where his predictions went wrong).

I loved Star Wars, and have for almost all my life (Originals were the best).

See, Star Wars is more Science Fiction, compared to Arthur C. Clarke's stuff which sometimes is more Science Fiction.

It's a shame no one mentionned Blade Runner, one of the most important Science Fiction work in history. Haven't read the book, but the movie is one of my favorites of all times.

Also in the list, 1984 (though its becoming less and less science-fiction as time goes by), 2001 : A Space Odissey and of course the first Star Wars trilogy :)

The usual distinction is "hard" vs. "soft" sci-fi. A.C. Clarke's stuff is the hard quality, the one that's grounded heavily in scince, also sometimes called "speculative fiction", that is, science-based speculation of the future. Soft sci-fi, on the other hand, is bit like fantasy, just with lasers and spaceships and stuff.

I certainly don't doubt it was an influential novel, problem is that i've never actually read the darn thing. The movie, although somewhat iconic "I can't let you do that Dave." etc, was not nearly worth the accolades of Best Science Fiction anything.

After that Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.

Science Fiction is just shit when it takes itself too seriously.

Doctor Who FTW

What is it now, like 70 years since the first episode?
