That's racist and highly offensive. Just because it's okay to compare Bush's appearance to a primate and call him an idiot because he has a Texas accent - does not mean that it's okay to point out Obama's mistakes.

We should, but only if they're as funny like "the real question is...is our kids learning?" or similar. saying Iowa instead of Ottawa isn't all that funny really...plus, it's Canada, so who gives a fuck :-p

It's ok to make fun of a person for being southern, but not ok to point out the mistakes of a guy who just happens to be black; is that what you're saying?
If life gives you lemons, read the fine print; chances are, there's a monthly fee attached.

So, your perception here is that all southerners slaughter the english language and we should be understanding of their condition?

Well, I think it's fairly safe to say that Obama is probably not going to have as many verbal slip ups as Bush. I mean, here's an entire website dedicated to Bush's mangling of the english language. That site has currently 4327 of Bush's embarrasing quotes. Bush was president for 4 years, that's 2922 days...you do the math.
Among the more amusing ones:
"My job is a decision-making job. And as a result, I make a lot of decisions. "
"And so, so long as I'm the President, my measure of success is victory and success."
"There's an old saying in Tennessee - I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee - that says, fool me once - shame on - shame on you. You fool me, you can't get fooled again."
"I'll be long gone before some smart person ever figures out what happened inside this Oval Office."
"I can press when there needs to be pressed. I can hold hands when there needs to be - hold hands."
"We proposed a bold initiative, an initiative that takes equities out of the system, so people are treated fairly. "
"There - it's - you know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror."
"I think - tide turning - see, as I remember - I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of - it's easy to see a tide turn - did I say those words? "

I was being sarcastic (I was probably being a bit too subtle too). When Bush was president, he was compared to a monkey because of his appearance, which is mostly genetic and outside of his control. And people constantly called him an idiot because of his accent and southern way of speaking.
If people did the same thing to Obama, calling him a monkey because of his appearance and calling him an idiot because he's from the inner city - there would extreme cries of racism.

We shouldn't really have that problem, because he conducts himself rather well, I would claim. And he doesn't really look like a monkey.
And it would be racist - to insult him BECAUSE he's from the inner-city. I didn't insult Bush because he was from Texas; I insulted Bush because he conducted himself as an untouchable fool. To insult someone because they're from the inner-city and nothing else falls back on racial overtones (or perhaps just socio-economic overtones; either way, offensive).
Besides, especially where I live, I've heard plenty of insults about Obama - moreso than even Bush and McCain in certain circles. There just won't be any "Obamaisms" because he won't repeatedly butcher the English language in such an astounding manner as President Bush did.

Well, as I seem to remember he didn't double back and say "fifty" after everyone started laughing. If it weren't a joke, wouldn't he have tried to save face by correcting himself?

For God's sake, everybody trips up while talking. EVERYBODY. I doubt he would have said, 'I just made a mistake', because people seem to think of Presidents as Gods, who are exempt from our life problems, such as getting it caught in the zipper or masturbating.
I'm sure it was a mistake and not a joke, but that doesn't make him any less intelligent.

It's just not funny when Obama occasionally does slip up. His words are just not saturated with the same degree of down-home southern conviction that Bush's were, and Obama isn't really trying to be down-home, he's trying to keep an air of distant professionalism.
That Obama made one major factual mistake on the campaign trail, mentioning "57 states" instead of 48, and was in the midst of doing continuous state to state to state campaign stops without any sleep, in front of a hundred thousand people each time, is forgivable, and perhaps worth a chuckle.
But it's really not uproariously funny, because he doesn't try to justify his verbal mistakes by emphasizing them as Bush was fond of doing - think of the "fool me once" clip, where he just kept hashing it out until he didn't even realize what he was trying to say.

Did you watch the video when he said that? He was smiling, I really thought he was joking, and people just didn't get the joke. I thought he was just trying to joke at what it felt like, since campaigning is a drain. I could be wrong. But, you know, at least he knows Africa isn't a country.

Or the fun of making up his own words and swearing they were valid and definable. Decider immediately springs to mind.

Well, in his inaugural speech, Obama said that "forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath," but because of Cleveland's nonconsecutive terms, there have been 43 presidents, but 44 presidencies.
Not really a misspeaking, just a minor factual error of little consequence.

"As I said in my inauguration speech, if countries like Iran are willing to unclench their fist, they will find an extended hand from us.' 'It is very important for us to make sure that we are using all the tools of US power, including diplomacy, in our relationship with Iran."
There's two issues here:
Firstly, the US's relationship with Iran is hardly a healthy one, due in part to the Bush administration's heavy-handed approach that regularly undermined any negotiations that Iran was in with the EU3 (France, Germany, UK) in a matter of seconds (as documented in Iran and the West on the BBC).
Secondly, I can't be the only person who gets this mental image?
Propaganda is to a Democracy what violence is to a Dictatorship
Never underestimate the significance of "significant."

So you insulted a white man because he conducted himself like a fool and it's not racist but if you insult a black man because of where he is from it's racist? Only black people live in the inner-city? It appears to me you have a very distorted view of reality.
I think if you were to insult obama because he was a black man, that would be racist... just like it would be racist to insult bush because he was a white man.
According to your logic if I insult someone because they like fried chicken, it's racist.
If I insult someone because they're poor, it's racist.
If I insult someone because their father left as a young child, it's racist.
If I insult someone because they have a big nose, it's racist.
If I insult someone because they have slanted eyes, it's racist.
If I insult someone because they're wearing some stupid traditional dress of their country, it's racist.
I bet you if I call someone a cracker honky piece of shit trailer trash scumbag, it's not racist.

I don't get as much amusement when Obama screws up though. When Bush screwed up it was often and some of them are hilarious. But when Obama messes up in a speech, it really isn't that funny because he doesn't try to go back and fix his mistakes. He just acknowledges them and moves on.
