Here is my entry. :) I just finished it.

Xyirx - Dragon's Awakening

I'd like to submit an orchestral piece I wrote very recently:

A Storm in the Night

The piece was inspired by an experience I had one night out in the rain by the ocean. You could see lightning striking over the ocean and thunder would soon follow and shake your feet. The waves that night were so powerful, and the moment was so...epic and climactic. I can't find any meaningful words for it, so I wrote music to express the night. I hope you enjoy!

Regardless of who wins this contest, I think the most important aspect is the feedback we gain, so with that in mind I'd love to get some advice!

I think its a good point is that most the listeners on NGAP happen to love dnb and trance/ dance, because it is (lets be honest here!) the soundtrack to the free gamers and 90% of the guys who like independent/ underground music. However, in terms of supply and demmand, most the guys who like classical/ ambient music on NGAP are going to be trying their hand at writing it!

So this kinda classical/ ambient contest brings a little equilibrium by giving a larger forum to the proportionally large group of unheard classical/ ambient writers, and almost makes them pay attention to their colleagues, and in this example, fellow contestants.

So yeah.

Good idea.....

I assume humor is not a valid emotion? Because if it was then I may have something soon although I obviously wouldn't win.

Wow.. reading all of these posts makes me realize how inferior my song could potentially be, due to the fact there there could possibly be thousands upon thousands of ambient/classical writers who could definitely out-perform my ambient dnb fusion. I agree with most of the people saying that trance deals more with being a programmer than a musician (gravey told me this in his review to Atmos Aura), and that the majority of people in the NGAP like dnb/trance/dance.

Though, the one thing that I disagree has to be with the consideration of it being the soundtrack to the free gamers. I lol at that. Not every track has to be related with video games, and I don't think that they are all to be considered as such, but true to the fact that 90% here like independent/underground music.

I love that there are many opinions about this little contest here, and it opens my eyes to many points of views. So I thank you all for that. You have opened my mind. (lol) I may not be the best.. Hell, I could be crap compared to these other composers, but in the least.. I shall say that I have tried, and failed with honour.

First i submitted my song ''Music Is Power'', but then i made a new song and i said i wanted to replace ''Music Is Power'' with ''Hopes And Dreams''.
I just listened to ''Music Is Power'' again and i think it's a better song for this contest.
May i change my submission once more? I promise i won't change it again.

Made it a while ago, but it's a nice uplifting piece.

To me, the whole point of music is to convey an emotion and try and get the listener to feel the same way as you did when you were writing the song. If you don't do that, what exactly are you accomplishing?

I think I'll enter this contest, will have some time to finish something I just started over my vacation(although there's a couple inches of snow on the ground here at school so this spring break feels a little premature)

Nice! My birthday is teh 17th of march!!! Finally gonna be 21! Fuck alcohol. I'm gonna get my concealed weapons permit and a nice little .45! MAOR!!!

I hate to do this, but I'm changing my entry. I fell like a douche doing it so late in the competition, but I wrote something far better than the entry I have here so far.

This new entry is titled Chronicles Op. 1 No. 2 "The Dream." It continues the story of a alien girl saved during an invasion and destruction of her entire planet. So to understand the rull story you should probably go listen to Chronicles Op. 1 No. 2 "Flarocian Genocide." Although, you don't have to do that to appreciate the music. :-)
