Yeah, I think we are lucky in the fact that no one that old comes to the NG's BBS lol.

I must agree that building the sandcastles was enjoyable.

Speaking of sandboxes, it was pretty funny today, one of my buddies stationed in South Carolina told me he was going to the sandbox in October. So of course I'm thinking in my head, ok this doesn't make much sense why would he be going to Iraq when most Marines are going to Afghanistan right now. So I ask him, what sandbox he's talking about Iraq or Afghanistan. He's like oh, Afghanistan. Then I told him, well that's not really the sandbox, it's more mountains than anything. He's like oh yea no shit.

I thought it was pretty funny, maybe that's just my sense of humor.

England (as you can see in my profile ;P)

Territorial army is basically like the reserves. You still serve as a soldier, but instead of being a full-time soldier, you're more like a part-time soldier. It's good for people who have an interest in the military, but have full-time jobs or can't commit to a full-time position in the army.

USMC, E-4, Corporal. I've been stationed at Camp Hansen Okinawa my whole time, but I've deployed to Fuji, Iraq, Korea, Sasebo (on the island on Kyushu in Japan), Korea again, Twenty-Nine Palms, and Iraq again.

Oh, and once you hit the fleet you'll learn that while you can trust fellow marines with your life, you can't trust them with anything that isn't nailed down or on fire.

Yea, sorry, too lazy to check your profile, but I kind of figured. That's kind of the same thing I'm doing right now then, until I finish school. Any branch in particular though? Or just the regular old army.

Welcome to the club Cpl, how long have you been in? That's a lot of place to be deployed, you got to be close to making a Sergeant by now.

Yea, there's always someone fucked up somewhere isn't there. Always there to give us a bad rep. Shit-bags.

I've been in 4 years. I had to ectend my contract by 2 months to make the last Iraq deployment, so I'm almost out. I'm nowhere near Sergeant. My MOS is currently 1785 to even pick up Cpl.

It's not a minority. SHit, my battalion Sgt Maj even refers to it as "tactically moving items from one location to another" but that guy isn't right in the head.

That's a lot of deployments then in 4 years. Yea, sometimes you just get a MOS that doesn't allow you to pick up very easily. What's 1785?

Yea acquiring shit. There's a few Sgt Maj that aren't right in the head. If I'd been enlisted in that long, I wouldn't be right in the head either probably.

I had a cousin who used to be stationed there as well. He's now a USMC Sergeant. I had original intentions of joining the Marines myself but, I grew impatient and joined the Army since they allow you to at 17. I know right? But I've been in almost two years now and I'm a PFC E-3. I should probably be a Specialist right now though... Hmm... I wonder if any slots are open. :D

Basic training for Army is a cake walk, michelinman will tell you. Don't you get like stress cards you can show the Drill Sergeants when you want them to stop yelling at you haha?

Yea opportunities to go around the world are pretty here and there. The Air Force has a lot more opportunities to do so than any other service I'm pretty sure. There's a lot of Marine Corps bases in Japan and of course there is embassies manned by Marines, but that's not a duty you can get easily.

Usually if you go overseas it's in a war zone.

I would think you could end up pretty much anywhere, but most likely they would have you in war zones. Military surgeons are put to a lot more use in the field then back on home military bases. There are surgeons on main military bases, but not as many.

Military surgeons are Trauma Surgeons, so they do what they do best where the action is and where limbs and bullets and bombs are most likely to meet.

Are you thinking of being a military surgeon?

I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. There were many US military bases on that island, more on the mainland, some in Korea, some in Thailand, some in the Phillipines. I know of bases in Germany, Italy, Sicily, the UK, all over Africa, and of course the middle east. Lets not forget that the Navy sends fleets damn near everywhere, and they all take marines attached to a MEU with them. The MEU on Oki does all of asia (and some years Australia), the one on the west coast does the other half of the pacific, and the one on the east coast does the entire mediterranean.

Also, I be out now. Glorious feeling.
