4.09 / 5.00 15,161 ViewsToday was the 10th time that my internet has been cut off due to a violation to the terms of service of my isp,
EVery time i call them to get it turned back on they tell me to get rid of my viruses and put a pasword on my wireless, i always do that and i have no viruses, yet it keeps getting cut off every 3 or 4 weeks,
i recently downloaded L4D * legaly * and right after that it got cut off, so there are 2 things that could be going on.
1 ) ISP thinks using too much bandwidth is a virus
2) steam has virus like qualities?
what can i do or tell my isp to make them stop cutting me off?
Cut all porn subscriptions to R@ygold
Switch ISP. You might even get it cheaper with another ISP.
Go to Start.
Go to Run.
Type in cmd.
Type in ipconfig/release.
Shut off your motem for 5 minutes.
Turn your motem back on.
Type in ipconfig/renew.
Done.

I dont download porn, and seldom look at porn,

got to agree with this, your ISP sounds like its full of shit so moving to another one could do the trick. Heck, just ring them up and tell them why your moving and your likely to get things resolved. Don't get angry with them, just ask to close your account and when they ask why your closing it tell them, calmly and in a manner that suggests you've made up your mind, the exact reasons.
Did it with mine and it got me a year's free upgrade
Yeah like someone said, ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew will help you from having to contact them to renew your dynamic global ip.
Do you have Xfire? xFire downloads updates automatically and I think reuploads them to other people who need it from you, like a torrent.
And if I'm not mistaken I think steam may do the same thing. So perhaps your supposed to not upload at all, and you some how are. But most ISPS will just charge you for all the upload costs and not cut off your connection.
Are you connected wirelessly? Anything that opperates in the 2.4 GHZ spectrum such as microwaves, metal filing cabinets and chordless phones could interupt it. Try staying directly connected and seeing how it does. My brothers room has absolutely no signal because he is on top of the garage, and theres a huge metal support beam in the frame of the house that absorbs the signals.
And if your worried about people stealing your wireless, look into mac filtering. I've cracked WEP, WPA, WPA2. There crap security today, with mac filtering, you can statically assign your computers hardware address to your router, since mac addresses never change its really a one time configuration. And mac filtering is on the most basic of routers, even the ones without WEP.
Also do you have a static IP? I'm not 100% sure if this would work since you say that your ISP is intentionally shutting you off, but if it is happening randomly it could be that you have a dynamic IP address, which means your IP expires every few hours to a few days and you are assigned a new one. This could definately cause problems in the middle of downloading something but shouldn't cut you off completely.

THEy manually cut me off and i get a red message instead of a web page that tells me to call them to resolve an issue, then i go threw the procedures,
I am connected directly, and my wireless is only for ps3 and wii, the conection is hidden, so no random person is using it, i also can see and block ppl who are on it.
but yea i think im using too much bandwith with steam wich is BS, thanks for the help, calling next time it happens and telling them im switching to get more bandwidth,
Why do people ask newgrounds for advice?
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.
Filing cabinets operate at 2.4Ghz?

Because they either troll or need serious answers since 4Chan just says "delete system 32".
Switch ISP. I recommend it or have someone go to your house and check.
You got some fucked up provider man.
If it's honestly the provider that cuts you off.
I do some crazy shit with my internet man...And never in my life I have been cut off by my supply man. I mean....cut off for a virus? How low security they got if they need to cut off every computer on their network wih a virus....
These things are so common....
Anyway...the cmd thingy sounds like the most realistic option....Or liek....Buy a new network card? =/
:p
