Hey,
I've got a lot of cash to burn after Christmas and all that. So, I figure I'm going to buy some DVDs. The only problem is, I don't know which ones to get. Any suggestions? I like most anything.

I'm not exactly sure if this will help, but I got my DVD player just three days ago and so far, I have five DVDs. One of them was actually a Christmas present from a friend (bonus points if you can guess which one), but it doesn't matter. She made a great choice. But yeah, the ones I have right now are: Donnie Darko, Fight Club, The Matrix, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut and Spider-Man. Hopefully, that should give you some ideas about what you might want. Good luck finding what you need.

Anything written by Charlie Kaufman is guaranteed gold:
Being John Malkovich
Human Nature
Adaption
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
...and his new film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is scheduled for theatrical release on March 19. Those other four are on DVD though.

Hey, I've loved MASH for years upon years! It rocks! Well, except the last few episodes where it got really preachy. But, yeah its a good show. Thanks for everyone's help!

You mean "Hey remeber when I was an actor instead of a fag who hangs out in a starbucks in Tuscany discussing Dostoevsky with people that I pay to listen? No really guys, I did The Glass Menagerie I'm still credible!"
The thing that I liked about that movie is that it's in the drama comedy genre but has niether drama nor comedy. It's a film that is based on the prinicple that if enough people say that it's intellectual then the viewers become intellectuals.

I'd agree on some good suggestions already mentioned such as the Nightmare on Elm Street box, LOTR 1 + 2, Scarface, a couple of others. I'd also add the Indiana Jones box, the new Alien box, Finding Nemo, Natural Born Killers and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Being John Malkovich
What does John Malkovich's acting history have to do with anything? The original spec script for this movie was not commissioned by John Malkovich. The movie wasn't an attempt to bring great publicity back to John Malkovich, it was actually a poke at his "now he's here, now he's not" kind of popularity. He's not one of the most heard of actors of all time, and if you pay attention to people familiarity with him throughout the film, that's part of the whole comedic element. It's a fairly dry humor, but on average the movie was hilarious.
The thing that I liked about that movie is that it's in the drama comedy genre but has niether drama nor comedy. It's a film that is based on the prinicple that if enough people say that it's intellectual then the viewers become intellectuals.
It was certainly a drama, it was certainly a comedy, and didn't present itself as an "intellectual" film in any way.
The guy works in a five-foot office. A three-foot door takes him into another guy's brain. How exactly does that try to suggest that it's a film for the intellectual?
