I didn't read over this entire thread so I don't know if it's been said, but my most overrated character would get me assaulted by a thousand angry, costumed nerds; Sephiroth.

I hated him as a character. He's not fun, he's creepy in the kind of Norman Bates meets Jeffree Star kind of way.

Gotta say Mario is really overrated. He may have been big back in the 80s but during the PS2 era i didn't know of a single person who owned a mario game, or even a gamecube. But he is sorta havin a revival with the wii and all but still the majority of Mario games which are spin-offs are not brilliant games.
Plus i have no idea who cloud is, he is mentioned frequently in this thread.

Saying Master Chief doesn't make sense because everyone hates him and Halo now. So if anything Master Chief and Halo are underrated. Great graphics, pretty good storyline. What's wrong with it?

Lets see........ CLOUD, FFVII has got to be the most overrated FF. What is it everyone see's in Cloud you only like the guy cause it was the easiest way to be in the "In Crowd" My opinon though :)

Coming to think of it though, characters like Master Chief are actually a little overrated, he's a bit too simple, just a guy who you can't see in a suit with guns.

Although that could be a good thing.

Mario - No personality, none of his games have a good storyline. The only reason is so famous is because he is the first and Nintendo won't stop milking money out of his aging, hairy nipples.

Link - I don't even get why he has the fame he has now, he can't even talk, he acts more like an avatar than an actual character.

Sonic has never been overrated. The character is commonly called shit and so are the games. Sonic doesn't belong above Cloud or Master Chief because no one worships Sonic anywhere near like the other two.

You'd be surprised. Lots of people feel that Sonic's 3D outings have been about as fun as play with a dog turd but a lot of people still think very highly of him.
