HELP SUPPORT TSF'S HOBBY

I love building computers, I love modding. These pursuits are what allowed the LEGO case to come to fruition. I've mentioned it a few times before throughout the thread, but I think it's time I be serious about it.

I will sell this case to the first person who wants it. My asking price is $900+shipping. The computer runs well and will ship with a fully cleaned out installation of Windows XP SP2. No temperature problems have been recorded as of yet, although it does need to be put in a well ventilated area. It is a cumbersome and delicate case, but I worked on it on the counter, and transported it back to the desk to take pictures, so it is considerably sturdy.

Specs:
Nvidia 7300 LE
Pentium 4 HT 3ghz
Samsung 200Gb HDD
300 watt power supply
1Gb DDR ram

Don't want this computer? That's fine. I've thought about it and came up with a really great way of doing this. You can get your own computer LEGOized. Send me your computer, and 400-600 dollars (depending on your wants/needs), and I'll send it back to you in a LEGO enclosure.

So, what do you think?

My best, please give it a listen and review, rate, and enjoy.

A very very good offer! I would accept but i don't have enough money AND i'm happy with my old computer. I use my laptop mostly so there is no point spending $600 on a 6 year old computer! Lol

Congratz again for making the case!

Heres some tips:
1.) Get a mobo tray and use brass screws so you don't short out your mobo.
2.) Find a way to keep the legos from falling apart.
3.) An average computer weighs around 40-80 lbs, so focus on keeping the bottom legos together.
4.) Due to the fact that you'll have around two layers of crap in your case, I recommend buying the best cooling fans out there (including a decent 3rd party cpu fan).
5.) Don't expect to perfect everything on your first try.
6.) Save up!

im so glad you were able to finish this. you should do a monitor next. maybe take a flat screen monitor and build a lego shell around it.

I'm a regular thread killer. If you see my post at the bottom of a page, chances are there are no more posts below it.

More of a pain than a normal computer, but not impossible.

I still have some pics I never shared.

I really like how that turned out. I personally would have done it in one color but I understand you appreciate the patchwork look and I can't diss you for that. I'm also thrilled heat wasn't an issue.

Wait, since when did approximately 3 hours worth of work plus LEGO supply costs equal 400-600 USD?
It's not like you are a mechanic. This is non-skilled work. Meaning anyone can do it.

So, what do you think?

Nvidia 7300 LE ~76.00 USD
Pentium 4 HT 3ghz ~150.00 USD
Samsung 200Gb HDD ~50.00 USD
300 watt power supply ~40.00 USD
1Gb DDR ram ~20.00 USD

Total = 336 USD

Approximate price of used legos : 80 USD

Your asking price = 900 USD

Sounds like a ripoff to me.

Wow, very cool, very creative. My only complaint is that it looks kind of ugly. If you build another Lego case, you should use only one or two colors of blocks, instead of a chaotic mess of every color. Otherwise, nice work!

HOLD IT RIGHT THERE.

You want 400-600 dollars for something I could do myself in a day? AND you want me to up and just mail my computer to you, where I'd probably never see it again?'

Yeah.. I don't think so.

Yeah.. I don't think so.

Here's some funky calculations for you.

The perimeter of a midtower enclosure is about 18 2x10 bricks. The height of a conventional midtower is about 75 bricks.

2x10 bricks are $0.25 from LEGO.com
75 perimeters of 2x10s is 1350 bricks.
1350 bricks costs 337.50 plus tax.
This is of course, not even including other parts that are needed, like plates for the motherboard tray and base.
Not to mention hardware which probably totaled $20.
Lets say it costs $400 in raw materials for me to start a LEGO case.

Also, the LEGO case took me a solid 3-4 days to build, as you can see from the progression of the worklog. I put in maybe 2-3 hours a day. Assuming I clocked in at 10 hours to build the case, this leaves 0-20 dollars an hour for workmanship.

So really, that figure is an undershoot.
