anyone use audacity to get things into mp3's? most audio programs i've found make you pay for the full version to export mp3's. audacity lets you record and export as mp3's. anyone else use this to get around paying for things?

Last time I checked (which was like, ages ago) you would have to download the LAME or any other mp3 codec to encode it. I think you can download one that includes it with the installer, though I could be wrong.
Yeah, I've used it from time to time. It is very useful. Although now-a-days, my audio editor of choice is Edison, which can be purchased for $100 :D (or free with FL Studio)

And yes... you need LAME in order to encode MP3's with Audacity. The reasoning behind the LAME MP3 library not being distributed with the program is because in many countries, for obscure reasons, MP3 file format use is strictly ilegal. I have no clue why lol :P
They want audacity to be a program that can be used in as many countries as possible, they don't include LAME.

thinking more along the lines of making mp3's of songs i make because the programs i work with lock the feature until you pay, but... sure whatever floats your boat i guess.
Audacity is good, but I find it much easier to print off a .wav file and compress it to an mp3 manually with my hands.
No, but most programs I use don't support mp3 format, so I have to use Audacity. Or Sony Sound Forge. Or FL if I'm writing electronica.
I enjoy Audacity, but there's no need to add to the pile of pointless threads about it.
