Why do people always assume that it's arsonists? Fires can start by themselves if it's hot enough and the area is dry enough. Admittedly some bush fires are started by arsonists, some accidentally by discarded cigarettes and the like. This happens every year in Australia. It's just been particularly unpleasant this year thanks to the heat wave we've had (which I guess you can blame on global warning).

Dunno, maybe there was enough evidence to suggest arsonists? I mean, I heard somewhere (don't quote me on this) by some high authority in the CFA that some of these fires just couldn't have started by themselves.

But I am with you, 46 degree plus temperatures, high winds and weeks without rainfall it was bound to happen right?

Im about half an hour to 45 mins away from the hillsville fire, yesterday the sky was completely filled with smoke and the air was thickened with its scent. I hope they get these things under control.
