Over the past day or so there has been and still continue to be dozens of huge fires spread right across Victoria.

So far the death toll is up to around 60 with hundreds of houses destroyed.
Even some small rural towns have been entirely wiped out.

It hasn't helped it was 40+ degrees Celsius across the entire state with some winds getting up to 50km/h+ causing some of the fires to travel at 30km/h. and taking clouds of think smoke for kilometres.

It's been called Black Saturday now and it's looking like it's going to be worse than Ash Wednesday.

It wouldn't be so bad if people would just stop lighting the damn things. God there was one story I saw on TV where a cop said he saw a guy stop his car, get out, light a fire then drive off.

I read some books about a war in Australia.
They started this huge fire and it burned the entire country/island/continent/landform to the ground.

I've got something to say...

At last look, 2 small towns completely wiped off the map, bendigo is gone too, 65 dead and 640 homes gutted by the fires.

Fucking arsonists.

I just don't understand fucking arsonists. Play with fire when we have wet vegetation not at high winds, steaming hot temperatures and dry as dick plantations.

By the way, Kinglake is GONE.

Another thing, why do the TV and radio media I hear continue to interview the heads and commanders of the CFA, shouldn't they be out there doing stuff? And don't go telling me to get off my ass, I know they are doing it voluntarily - but - they're skills would be put to better use than telling other people that there are fires around us.

C'mon it's 5 minutes so they can alert everyone else to the current dangers. It probably counts as their break.

I didn't realise it was so serious until I saw the news a couple of hours ago.

What confuses me is why people didn't get warned in time so they could get the fuck out of there. I remember in 2003 when Canberra had a bushfire, we were warned days in advance and only like 2 people died.

Geh, I just heard an update on the news... Death toll could be in the hundreds. People were trapped in their cars whilst trying to escape the 30km+ fires... Eh. I really wish their families well.

Only 2 suburbs of Bendigo have been hit badly, some of my friends know people who have lost their house.

Can we get aid from other countries? We gave a few water bombers when there were fires all over California.

They were warned in time, they were just given the choice to evacuate or stay and protect their homes, allot did the latter.

I reckon everyone in high-risk areas should get the fuck out and not try to play some heroic shit to try and save their house. A life is so much more fucking important.

You're all forgetting to acknowledge the silver lining, which is that the world is overpopulated, it's like picking up some trash off the floor and putting it in the bin.

Does this happen every summer over there? I never quite understand why it happens.

It happens eventually in the summer time almost every year in some degree, most of the time it happens around January-Feb because the summer heat has really dried everything out and it gets really hot and then all it takes is a spark, say.. a beer bottle acting like a magnifying glass in the sun, a cigarette butt that didn't get stamped out... or in this case an Arsonist.

Could it be some shitheads from ELF (Earth Liberation Front) doing it? If so having all of that smoke (especially from buildings) released into the atmosphere isn't gonna help the planet.

On a similar note farmers are allready starting to burn off their pastures here. And despite warnings, over the last 3 days people have started them, while the wind was blowing at over 20MPH. Needless to say the area fire departments were getting run ragged. And some buildings were destroyed by them also. This will continue until arround mid March here.

Saw the smoke coming from the bush and went and drove to have a look at the bush fire just downtown today and took some pics, stopped the car and watched the planes bomb it with water. Quite interesting...

Maybe Ruddkips won't block the internet now that there is something else besides censorship to look at. Maybe he'll get burned.
