I wouldn't say Newgrounds is an informative site with an intelligent community. It's more of an entertainment website for flash and audio artists to show off their talent. The only source of knowledge on this site it's the politics section of the BBS, some educational flashes here and there but that's about it.
If you want an information site, Wikipedia would be a better choice. It may have errors but the articles and paragraphs with cited sources will prove to be more educational than here.
There is a major difference in the kind of things you can learn from the bbs and from wikipedia.
Wikipedia is cold and detached learning, like a textbook, average people just do a quick scan before getting bored since it is so impersonal. Newgrounds is like an ongoing debate, you learn through trial and error and what you learn is more readily available to recall since it is more interesting. This is due to the fact that you have to engage yourself in order to learn here.
The things people learn here are mostly biased , so you won't get cold hard facts, but rather perspective. As far as information is concerned most of the stuff here is trivia, now and again can you find a quality bit of info, though you are probably better off on wikipedia.
