I don't know about you but every once in a while you happen to stumble upon a song that completely changes the way you thing about music. This is one of those songs. Besides its melt your face of guitar, pounding drums, and EXPLODING VOCALS its lyrics are almost fucking poetic. I mean its a good song within itself but all of a sudden you throw in a shit load of fucking brilliant lyrics and you have a fucking masterpiece that I think not very many people know about.

It's a good song, a newborn favorite for me within the metal genre, but definitely not something that will be changing my life or taste of music at all. First deathmetal track I ever heard, something from Belphegor, changed my views on the deathmetal genre, first regular metal track I heard, something from Sepultura, changed my views on the metal genre, and of course there have been a few revolutionary steps in my musical taste since I was 9 and listened to Surfing Safari and other similar songs from the 40-60s on my sisters big stereo.

I don't know about best metal song ever, but I'd have to say that, as someone who doesn't listen to metal all that often, I'd say that Themata would have to be my favourite metal song.
I definitely like the vocals a lot more.

Looking at just lyrics i think my favourite metal song (that's including all sub-genres of metal) would be These Fighting Words by DevilDriver. I don't have a link to it but if check it out.
If you like Amon Amarth, check out their song Pursuit of Vikings, it got me hooked on them.
Hmmm, not bad. In fact, it's like a smooth mixture of Dethklok's growling (the only type of death growl I like) and progressive melodies. Although, you're right about it being "possibly" the best. That may be you're own opinion, but I'm not really one to rant about it now, am I?
