Okay. Most of those phones are very similar to the iPhone. And all people want nowadays are phones that are better than what they are used to.
The Iphone didn't set a bar when you think about it no phone does (or at least sets a very blurry bar) it's merely a very popular phone the reasons why I don't know because I dislike the entire touch screen range.
If the iPhone didn't set a standard then why are many phones competing with it? Did you see the marketing for Sprint's Instinct? On all of the tests it was just showing how it matched up compared to the iPhone. It was trying to be better than it. To outdo it. To, dare I say, jump the BAR of what we consider the norm for phones today.

Ugh. Everybody with a Mac is incapable of admitting faults. Because if you show any signs of weakness and regret over your insanely overpriced purchase then maybe you might feel like you made the wrong decision? I don't think you are at liberty to admit your own faults either. The app store is alright. But, it also has flaws. iTunes is god awful. You can only sync data to a portable device through ONE specific program? And why does ONE song cost and entire dollar? I can listen to songs for free on my fucking radio.

The reason I don't buy Apple goods because of the reasons stated. A different firm will offer a superior product to Apple at a lower price. Take the iPod for example, you could buy Zune, Sony and not have to bother with the iTunes shit.

For the exception of the hardware and software. Usually they either have similar size or appearence. Generally the specifications are highly diverse.
Also not everyone. I don't mind if my standards are lower than what I expected as long as it works.
If the iPhone didn't set a standard then why are many phones competing with it?
Because it's shiny, well known and popular. Also the popularity with the Ipod it's going to encourage people to get the Iphone even though it has several downsides like the camera.

If you missed my point, it was that I can get on Newgrounds with my iPhone and post on the forums with ease. Once you get used to the iPhone's touch keyboard it's actually pretty fast. I can probably type faster on my iPhone than many people can type on a regular keyboard.

I'm not saying that it won't be semi-fast when you get used to it. I'm saying that it is slower than an ordinary keyboard. My question for you is do you type faster on the Iphone or a regular keyboard? Regardless of that, there are still other pieces of hardware and other portable devices that do the same thing and arguably do it better. The future of hand held electronics that I see is almost like a Swiss-army knife. You will have multiple parts of a keyboard/touch screen flip out to make something easy to type on yet still easily portable.

I am no fan of Apple or Macs. I'm a PC/Windows guy, have been for like 20 years (if you count Microsoft DOS).
That being said, I love my iPhone. I have no regrets, and I don't consider a $199 iPhone 3G an insanely over priced purchase. Many of the other phones on the market were almost as much and did WAY less.
I enjoy 3G data speeds most places I regularly travel, I have unlimited data, etc. I can stream my entire iTunes library wherever I got (Simplify Media app), there are tons of streaming apps to stream radio stations from all over the world, apps that stream MP3's in a genre you pic, etc.
Yes, only being able to sync from one computer with iTunes is annoying, but it's certainly not the end of the world. I generally only sync when there is an update, or just now and then to back up. It isn't a regular thing so it isn't a problem.
I don't put many MP3's or videos on my iphone because there is really no need.
There are a slew of Twitter clients which I enjoy using, AIM, news apps, Google Maps with a highly accurate GPS, weather apps, Geocaching apps, IRC apps, sport scores apps, tons of games, radio/music streaming apps, Facebook app, Myspace app, even an app that makes fart sounds! :P
It does everything I want it to and there are more apps all the time and who knows what the developers will come up with. I think it only costs $99 to become a developer and the developers get a good cut of the revenue if they decide to charge for their apps or they can make the apps free and have ads in the apps, or just free and ad free. I can even use my iPhone as a level thanks to the detectors that tell it what orientation it is in. It also does well interfacing with my email, web browser of course, etc. What's not to like?
You also don't have to pay for an MP3 to put it on the iPhone if you happen to have some you got for free, ripped from a CD, etc.

Why are you even bringing up such a moronic point?! If I'm out of my house I don't have a full sized keyboard on me! The iPhone's keyboard works great when I'm on the go. I prefer it to a mini manual keyboard that other phones use. Of course a full sized keyboard is faster, but I'm not lugging around a full sized keyboard with my phone, are you retarded?
I don't really want a flip out keyboard, it would add bulk and I'd worry about it breaking or wearing out.

Yea, man. The thing you have to admire about Apple is that they aren't gearing things toward anything other than EASE OF USE.
I've got an iPhone, it's got the level capability Wade mentioned. I've got an app that allows me to tune my guitar (or many other instruments) using the built in microphone to detect pitch.
Even without the GPS (since I'm on a 1.0 iPhone with Edge and no GPS... jokes on you guys, actually. I pay 10 bucks less every month for my unlimited data plan with little functionality loss, when the time comes for an upgrade in 2+ years I'll have spent less overall) it's still a sweet as hell phone. I'm no Mac fan either, it's just that this is the best option for a phone. Mac didn't waste time dumbing down their OS to fit on shitty hardware back when it was fashionable, they waited for hardware to catch up to the capabilities of a full operating system.
All I'm wishing for at the moment is that Trillian Astra's finally released. An IM client that says "fuck you" to others' way of doing things and uses the unlimited data to send and receive messages instead of overpriced texting plans will be win.
By the way, don't consider the limitations placed on the hardware by AT&T or Apple obstacles. I unlocked my phone the day after I bought it and people are constantly staying on top of different ways to take advantage of the things Apple or AT&T don't want you taking advantage of. I had cool apps like the ones you find in the app store BEFORE there was an app store. It's just gonna get cooler and cooler as data gets cheaper. Pretty soon people will ONLY need to buy data plans on phones because VOIP will replace standardized cellular calling. Apps will come out that exploit the growing number of wifi enabled cities so that you can call people within the city using networking technology instead of provider's cell towers, etc. It'll be just like what happened with landlines ie: Vonage, Skype, etc.

Evark, the GPS is pretty darn awesome though. One of my favorite features :) Great for finding places of interest, stores, etc, if you're in an area you're not familiar with. Great for geocaching, etc.
Also as far as the camera not being that great, it's not wonderful, but it's not that bad if you know what you're doing:

Yea, geocaching is really the number-one reason why I lament not waiting to get on board the iPhone train.
Also as far as the camera not being that great, it's not wonderful, but it's not that bad if you know what you're doing:
I can't say I know what I'm doing, but I've got some pretty magnificent iPhone pictures as well as even older ones from my prior camera phone (at 1.3 instead of 2.0 megapixels) Seems natural lighting is the most important aspect, though that magnifying glass trick is neat, I'll have to remember that.

You got all of this off of G4 tech tv, and Apple hasn't patented multi touch specifically(Its quite obvious that palm did first), they just have a shitload of small patents that patent very specific things so it adds up to a big effect.

Compared to other alternatives it's awful especially by todays standards. Zoom in on those pictures and you'll quickly find very grainy details. My old W800i took better pictures.
