is it possible just to put the dialog and not put like back ground music and junk? i dont have much in the sfx department

I'd like to be a judge. I've been doing improv comedy out here in Los Angeles for a little while plus I do voice acting for a series called "Sketched" here on newgrounds which will soon be a pilot for television networks to see. So if you need another judge I'm very interested.

Yeah dude! That is actually prefered unless of course you can make your own sound effects lol. Like doors opening, cars driving by, e.t.c. Make ti with your mouth though! :o

I love self made sound effects.

Oh yeah I do too. In many onlines games, human made sound effects are frequent because they give that sort of comedy style.

I know right? This is history for voice acting lol. :3 I put a little advertisement for this thread in there so I think we wll get some new people.. maybe. :| whats hilarious is that the when you enter the audio portal the first thing you hear is tha dum dum dum dummm da la di dum... lmao .:D

It actually was... but it only means your score is dropped. His was amazing so his score wont be affected that much.

I don't recall any rule against using music and sound effects. I mean, I too felt that there was definitely an abuse of stock sound effects, but I wanted to make it clear that nobody deserves to be marked down just for using them (you never stated that explicitly in the rules). They should just know that it can affect their score if it detracts from their overall submission.

As far as judgment, I have been listening to all the submissions so far, but I want to reserve my opinions for the end of the contest. Remember everyone, having cool voices is important, but what's most important is the acting. Become your characters and understand them so the listener can too. When making my selections, my priorities will be in the following order:

1) Acting (how convincing was the overall performance? was delivery meaningful and timed well? was it free of accidental stuttering/stumbling?) */35 POINTS
2) Fit (do the voices you chose actually fit the characters you're trying to portray?) */20 points
3) Originality (in writing) */20 points
4) Range (Do your multiple voices actually sound like different people?) */15 POINTS
5) Mixing (did you take the extra time working with your audio to make it sound polished and chohesive?) */10 POINTS

The combined score out of 100 is what I will use for my final judgment. This is simply the system that I plan to use, but if any other judges find it useful, I encourage them to use something similar, perhaps weighting it differently based on their own priorities if they differ from mine.

I agree with that almost completely. I think too often people focus on doing different voices and don't concentrate enough on the acting in the scene itself. With proper acting and inflection you should be able to portray several different characters by hardly changing your voice at all, a prime example being Tray and Matt from South Park. Almost every adult character on that show sounds similar, but they are all distinctly different characters.

Different voices are cool, but don't let it distract from your overall goal.

So just for the record, I will be using a system very similar to Toma's in the judging process.

Yeah I agree Josh. However, sound effects increase the comical and quality style of the voice. So I say minus one point for every 3 sound effects. Anymore than 10 sound effects gets a little ridiculous, like the one I mentioned earlier. Some sound effects such as *boing boing* are only supposed to be used occasionally. When they are used multiple times, it gets a little corny, which actually LOWERS the quality of the voice, in my opinion.

Sorry I was not very specific earlier. You must all understand this is my first competition to hold, so I wasn't exactly sure what to say. Next competition I will know what to say in the beginning so there will not be any questions.

What I know now is that all judges will review in the manner that Josh said. which is Acting, Originality, Fit, Range, and Mixing.

Acting - How real your characters sounded and the quality of emotions. - 25 points

Fit - How well each voice fit in with each character. *A crazy homeless man would not sound boring and dull for example* - 25 points

Originality - How original your script was. Try to be as creative as possible. - 25 points

Range - Did each voice sound different from each-other? Did you use multiple characters? - 25 points

Mixing - This is an important part. It shows the quality of your work when you exported it onto Newgrounds or whatever site you chose. Also it shows how far away each charecter is from eachother. If someone is far away, make the volume for the person low. YOU MAY NOT USE VOICE ENHANCERS!!! *Only quality enhancers accepted because technically mics enhance your voice anyway* - 10 points

HIGHEST POSSIBLE SCORE = 110 POINTS

At the end of the contest, I will contact the judges and we will discuss each entry in this form. I will then review each submission with what we all thought of yours. I will post this on the next page as a reminder.

If anyone disagrees with this, just say so and I will do my best to alter it if possible.
