Anyone who's seen the movie enemy at the gates starring jude law would know that World at war totally stole the idea of the sniper firing under the cover of the sounds of the bombers passing overhead, i know it was a cool scene in the movie and pretty fun to play in the game, but i was wondering if this was a true story about a sniper in WWII and thats actually where the idea came from, or is it just COD5 stole the idea?

Vasily Zaytsev was a real person. I don't know if the events portrayed in the movie were real, but most definitely were based on the real story.

The battle of snipers at... Stalingrad was it? was a true story. I'm sure the Hollywood rendition took some creative liberties though.
As for "stealing" the idea of a sniper using bomber noise as cover to shoot, that's a bit of a stretch. It could just as well been an independent idea. I've never played the game though, so maybe the visuals are similar? Beh.

How could the "idea of the sniper firing under the cover of the sounds of the bombers passing overhead" even be original? It's just common sense.
Like coughing to cover up your farts, or taking a long, walking stride as an alternative to picking a wedgie.

I'm talking pretty darn similar here. Lol even the backdrop is fairly close (though i'd assume that stalingrad after it had the shit bombed out of it would all look like a grey rubble-filled mess) even his targets are the same type, officer ranks who are taking a smoko out in the streets, he even fires at them from a similar looking baracade of rubble lol. And as you may have noticed i dont have a photographic memory, i just watched the film and then played that part in the game to be sure.

Wow. Haven't seen YOU post in general...ever.

I liked that movie. But unless the game also used the idea of flashing glass to blind someone too (another commonly used trick), I wouldn't make a big deal about it.

Wait Petrenko! You will give away our position, we must wait. The general ate chili tonight, his flatulence will cover our shots...
