So North Korea warned on Sunday that the downward spiral of relations with the South has pushed the peninsula to the brink of war, two days after it said it was scrapping all pacts with its rich capitalist neighbor.
Well poop on a prostitute, this sounds like quite the pickle. Apparently, some people speculate that it is simply to stir the shit with the new U.S. President, this is a serious situation. Getting involved with two sovereign entities on a small pacific landmass has never really worked out that well. And though this could be the Korean war all over again, I think it holds a small risk of being Vietnam all over again. Anyway, this is not something we need right now, with the market in the crapper and obligations in Iraq and the Middle East, and the whole Isreal drama. Well. Mr. Obama, best of luck. Hopefully they're bluffing.
hopefully if there is another korean war then democracy can come to north korea as well.

I think we were just worried about china getting involved so we didn't push all the way to the border. Then they got involved anyway.

They have nuclear weapons in the North now. Only way you get democracy there is if Kim Jong IL gets something like A Christmas Carol Democracy edition visited on his ass.
Nukes means that you probably can't regime change the place, and yeah, hopefully this isn't a situation where the North is going to test our commitment to the South and figures even if we badly want to defend them we just aren't equipped to enter into a third war.

The U.S. thought Saddam had WMD's, and we regime changed his ass. Oh snap! But seriously, if we'd take that risk, why not this one?
Or we could just leave them alone and worry about our own problems. We should take our troops out of the Korean peninsula and put that money to productive use back home. If both the North and the South want us to mediate, then we could, so long as we make it clear that we're not going to back either side in a war.

Saddam didn't have nuclear warheads capable of leveling massive chunks of cities.

Nothing will happen, just as nothing has happened every time there has been brinkmanship tensions. Nothing has happened, since the many failed black ops operations that both sides have failed with over and over. Nothing has happened, since a group of crazy Northeners stabbed a poor kid guard to death. Nothing has happened, when Kim Jong Mysteriously vanished a few years ago and his portraits removed only to be put back up. Nothing has happened, when North Korea actually fired missles over Japan. Nothing has happened, since Kim Jong's train had a terrible accident, over and over again.... and nothing has happened when North Korea fired the "Icarus" lazer on the South! (James bond movie).
Nothing will happen, nothing has happened, and nothing is going to happen since the past 60 years! Kim Jong just has his bad dandruff days that's all, and he tries to make us all feel, for him.

In the first Korean war, if we had crossed the Yalu river, we would have been in a ground war with China, and the USSR in all likelihood, 5 years after the largest, most deadly war in history. So, I wouldn't use the term "we were just worried", more like Truman was a WWI veteran and was smart; doing what he thought was right despite public opinion and the opinion of some generals.

My brother lives in South Korea.
ITs barely even News worthy over there.
They have been hearing the rantings of madmen in North Korea for so long, they no longer bother getting upset about their childish tirades, according to my brother. But he has said, what could happen is a massive missile, airborn assault. North Korea doesn't have the ability to sustain a long term military commitment. Without China to supply it & it no longer gets aid from USSR( or it has at least declined sugnificantly), it would be running out of supplies very quickly.
There is actually more concern in the South by the people who live there worrying about what would happen if they merged with the North again, & they inherit the burden of 20+ million poorly educated, untrained, & malnourished people dropped in their laps.
According to my brother who is married to a South Korean, that is what the people in the street are more concerned with.

What do Obama and the US have to do with this? Why does the US need to involve itself in every single foreign conflict?
If it comes to war let the war be fought between North Koreans and South Koreans.

Gotta' protect them interests.
*cough cough* I thought South Korea is already in a war with North Korea. I believe they haven't sign any Peace treaty? just a truce? It look as if they are still in a war, but doing so mean Super power conflicts.
CRAP, this sounds like another 'Nam!!! Obama's allready got his hands full.
The North Koreans seriously need to screw off.

Your idea makes sense, although how you would deal with families who have been seperated for years would probably lead to problems. Although its been 50+ years since they stopped hostilities, there have been thousands of North Koreans who have successfully escaped & come to the South.
There is a good story about this in this months National Geographic magazine.
I got an e-mail from South Korea today, & my brother & his wife's family say that they ignore the North...In their words "The leaders there are always doing odd things & it isn't worth the bother of getting upset by their antics"

they've been at risk of war since the last one there ...

I would agree with most and ignore the situation because threats from the North are frequent and often. Its just like the movie "Team America" depicts it, Kim Jong Il is in need of some attention and this is another way of grabbing some headlines to make sure the world still fears him and to even America's new blood President.
Kim Jong Il is proven to be pretty irrational so the only thing worrying me is his unpredictability.
uh, not to burst your little bubble, but this aint new. They've been at risk for a while. Honestly, ones Commubist, the others not(i dont know what SK is). Also Sout Korea is allies with the U.S which is an enemy of the NK. And NK has Nuclear weopans and no food. kind of a problem between the two.

And not to burst your bubble, the fact that South Korea is a democracy ain't new either.

it is a democracy.
North Korea's nuclear capability, is last I heard, unconfirmed. If they have nuclear bombs, they are still working on a missile system for long range deployment.
Those who have only the religious opinions of others in their head & worship them. Have no room for their own thoughts & no room to contemplate anyone elses ideas either-More
Therin lies the problem with North Korea- information on their nuclear option is unconfirmed. Meaning that while they might not possess the ability to launch ICBMs, it's also possible that they do. While the rest of the world does frown upon atomic intimidation, Communists have a habit of saying "Fuck THAT noise" in regards to common sense and decency.
Let's look at the facts. Kim Jong is unquestioningly bugfuck loopy. No other country in the world harbors such a major grudge against sensible countries. Russia came to its senses almost 20 years ago, and while there is some mistrust, they certainly aren't still aren't eyeing Alaska anymore. Japan has all but shelved the WW2 bombs and moved on to selling electronics. Shit, even Viet-fuckin'-Nam isn't as openly hostile and nasty as they once were.
But the Koreans? The war ended damn near 50 years ago, and they still hate the free world. Every year it's the same old song & dance with threatening to cross the 27th and make a grab for Seoul. Every goddamn year. The only people I can think of that raise this kind of bullshit on a regular basis are the Islamists. At least they don't have nukes.
But in all honesty, North Korea really doesn't pose that much of a threat. They're backwards, inefficient, and they lack the resources needed to properly build a nuclear warhead, much less the launch systems. While they might have one or two nukes ready to roll, they certainly don't have the capacity to wage any kind of extended campaign against the free world.
No, if anything, the only thing the South Koreans are afraid of regarding the North, it's a German-style reunification.
Oh yeah, I remember that guy.
Always was kinda stupid. Few bricks short of a load, ya know?
Hey, isn't he some kinda senator now?
Kim Jong Il is a classic example of a spoiled brat leader raised with absolutely no discipline. This was a major problem back in medieval times with the european royalty. All too often the young princes were not disciplined as children and grew up to be self centered pricks and ineffective leaders. Then they were dethroned and replaced by a new much stronger king, then the king had some younging and over several generation the royalty grew weak again, then replaced by a new strong king.
It's only a matter of time before North Korea actually does attack south korea and gets beaten. Then the hell really breaks loose when you got a bunch of brainwashed uneducated sheep without their godlike leader to lead them.
I'm not crazy, everyone else is.

I wish that was possible but unfortunately North Korea is nuclear. A nuclear state is a permanent state.
nukes should just self-destruct in N.Korea and the war is done. there... the majority of the people are happy...
It seems to be a bluff, they do this once or twice a decade. If the North Koreans decide to make a move, I will sign up to help defend the innocent ones in the region and abroad at home.
I can only wonder how the Juche regime could possibly fall with a people so isolated... so shutout from the affairs, knowledge and wonders of the outside world...
Anyways, I am ready to sign up as a 38 Bravo if need be--most are Army Reserve, so that would be convenient--I could finish college, possibly.
