Now I'm a big Halo fan and a big Age of the Empires fan. Put the two together, mix in a little Starctraft and you get Halo Wars.
I was hesitant at first to purchase this game but after months of following it I've decided to purchase it. What I'm worried about most is that it will get a bit of a bad rep because people will think it is a Halo 4 shooter, buy it, play it and say "this is gay" and return it.
The game looks really addicting and the cut scenes are beautiful. A RTS on a console usually does not do that well but it looks like they may have perfected it here.
Here is 35 minutes of the demo
I started on video 2 because that's where it started getting interesting in my opinion.
I think the game looks great and I will be purchasing the special edition of this game which is the first time I have ever done this. I usually just get the standard game. However the special edition comes with the 3 new Halo 3 maps way before they will be put up on the market place and being the Halo fan that I am, that is awesome.

Albeit AOE3 was terrible, but 2 was the shizznizz so hopefully a 4 would habe been pure pwnage.
Well that was Microsoft's decision. Ensemble just officially closed yesterday I believe. If there is a AoE4 it will be done by one of the two game companies forming out of the broken up Ensemble studios.

No, fuck Microsoft for closing them down.
And according to the most recent issue of a games magazine I always buy, they say that one problem with Halo Wars is that there is no strategy involved, and it's as easy as sending all your troops to the front line, wait 5 minutes and you've won the battle.
They reckon it's the one problem that could ruin Halo Wars like it ruined the first Command and Conquer games.

I'm stoked... mostly because it's an RTS designed specifically for a console. The Halo aspect of it is hit or miss... I've never really follwed the games and have yet to play Halo 3 (although I'd like to).
I'm just more excited about RTS controls that work on my console of choice.
There's another console RTS coming out soon as well... Stormrise, I believe. That looks good too.

The 3 Mythic maps you get with Halo Wars CE look sick. A genius way to boost the sales of Halo Wars. Sandtrap looks completely customizable complete with a grid. It seems that you will be able to build things in the air without glitching and tons of other customizable features. You can get this and the other Mythics maps earlier if you buy the Halo Wars CE.
Also the Halo Wars demo hits LIVE tomorrow. You guys are going to like it.
Also, DEATHSPHERE!? I can't wait to see what havoc this is going to wreck.

If there are 5 new maps coming out, and 3 come with the LCE of halo Wars, then i presume the other 2 will come with Halo 3 ODST?

Don't get me wrong, I think that Halo Wars is an okay game. I personally think the cutscenes are significantly better than anything that Bungie can make, and it's refreshing to get more unique characters to the series.
My only problem is playing RTS with a controller. That does not work, at all.

Well obviously it is different with a controller. I played the demo and I was fine with the controls, I didn't have a problem at all. People use to think that shooters on consoles were jokes and then Halo came a long and every shooter appears on a console and sells a shit load.

Yes, Halo did reinvent shooters on controllers due to its use of two control sticks but Halo Wars is still rather difficult to control with the level of precision that is necessary for RTS games. Basically you need to highlight all of your units at once, every time you want to attack. It is a good game but I plan on waiting for it to hit the bargain box; there are so many other quality AAA games that came out over the holidays that I believe are superior to Halo Wars.

The cut scenes were brilliant, but I really was hoping for mouse/ keyboard compatability.
One trend i've noticed springing up in recent rts games is the way that you can only build structures in certain base sites. That limitts the strategy point of base construction from
"Where do I put this so that it won't get fucked over within five minutes" to
"I can't build everything despite having nigh-unlimited resources, so i should build thisthisandthis"
Anyway, just a minor gripe. I'll probably buy the game but not until I have resi 5.

Agreed.
I don't like being forced into predesigned bases and limited number of buildings. I was always a huge fan of building 'farm walls' or protecting my workers with mass amounts of defensive towers.
Not being able to build 30 barracks sucks too.
I'm willing to take it on this game because it's an RTS on a console, but I despise seeing this on a computer.
