Have your parents whined about something that has nothing to do with them at all?
Yesterday, on the way home thinking about my college time-table, I realise I have one lesson which is 12:25 to 1:25. I then realise that I've never tried whiskey ever. Putting the two together, I decide to get some whiskey on the way home (Jack Daniels) and try it the following week (due to meds). That night, I ask my dad if he wants anything from there which then he asks curiously why I want to know. I then tell him I'm going to pick up some whiskey to try (so he knows why there's a bottle of whiskey in a cupboard or whatever and if I dislike it, then I hand it to my big brother). He then flies into a large rant about how it's high percent alcohol and I'm on a slippery slide. That I'm going to become a raging alcoholic in no time just because I want to buy some whiskey.
If I wanted high percent alcohol, then I'd just buy vodka. It's easier and I know about it anyway. I then went in detail about why I wouldn't become a raging alcoholic (due to me drinking it the following week, only on weekends and don't plan to get very drunk off it). He carries on ranting about me becoming a raging alcoholic so I just give up, leave the room and decide to just store it in my room anyway.
This too will pass.

Haha, I'm underage and my dad doesn't even mind my drinking. That's some fucked up shit, man.
Speaking of which though, I've actually been drunk every night this week, including right now.

Dude don't even worry about it.
There was nothing in his rant that atleast tried to make you feel bad so worrying will only MAKE you call upon it.
Drop it because you seem like those whiney 7th graders that always complain about thier parents.

Whiskey/Vodka = both ~40% alcohol. Anywho, if you want to try some good whiskey I'd reccommend some scotch. I'm not such a huge fan of bourbon or tennessee whiskey. I've had a bottle of Jack Daniel's in my cabinet for over a month and haven't even finished the neck of the bottle, whereas I tend to easily go through a bottle of Carlton Club scotch whiskey in about a fortnight.
But that's just my opinion.

Your dad basically talked into a circle. You can't blame him for worrying about you though. Well whiskey isn't a bad choice, but if you're going to have a drink for just the weekends I suggest a nice quality scotch that way you can offer to friends and seem high class.

He's just being a little over-protective. You can't blame him, afterall, he is your dad. The most you can do is ignore him.

Also my uncle says Tenesse (spelling) whiskey makes him angry or frustrated for some reason. He prefers Ale. But at my point of 13 and sips of Whiskey I say Moonshine is the best, WOW illegal, and the legal stuff thats the best TASTING and original is Jack Daniels

I can blame him for having bad logic.

Carlton Club scotch? I'll look into it but it's not really a large shop.

It sounds like your dad may have some demons of his own involving alcohol, and he may not want you to go down the same path as him. The fact that he reacted so quickly and angrily to the news that you were just purchasing hard liquor probably means that there is some terrible stigma that he associates with alcohol.
But I wouldn't take this too badly - sure he overreacted, but at least he cares for you. There are some parents out there who never try to protect their children from dangerous activities, and the children suffer for it.

It's a fairly large brand, you can get it pretty much everywhere in Australia, plus it is cheap. Even if you can't find it, scotch is still the way to go.

Very true. I saw a bunch of kids around 12 years old at the local shops today. They were smoking and shouting obscene things at random passers-by. I wasn't even annoyed by them, I just felt sad that they obviously had such fucked up parents that couldn't teach them right from wrong.

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly say that I've suffered as a result of my dad not giving a fuck. I figure I was always smart enough to moderate my intakes, and keep myself from fucking up too bad.
This week was an exception. My dad was out of town, and I thought I'd have a couple parties. I kinda ended up having one every night, but I kept it all under control. I was never the one puking :P

Storing it in your room helps his story more than yours.
You should sit down, have a drink or four with him, talk about life and what it means to you so far, bond a little and show him you're mature enough to imbibe the good stuff.

Yeah, it's weird that he was happy to leave me a few crates when he was away from the house for a week, was happy to take me out drinking but goes crazy over me buying hard alcohol.

The only problems with the suggestions is he hates whiskey and he's very narrow-minded. Once he's got a point, he never wants to change his mind.

He's just watching over you. He knows you're not gonna become a raging alcoholic from drinking some whiskey, but he doesn't want to let you drink it it as it's his son's future being put into risk.
Gotta be careful with dem kids.

that sucks, but he is just trying to be a good father, no matter how big of a dick he really is being. Maybe it's not you, it's alcohol. Maybe he's just really anti-alcohol or something. idk.

It sounds to me as if he's worried you'll have a similar problem with alcohol abuse that he has struggled with. Maybe he's learned to control his alcoholism by only consuming alcopops? Perhaps he's worried that if you've got hard liquor around he'll dip into it himself?
I dunno. Lots of people go through a binge-drinking phase in their lifetime. IMO, it's alcoholism when you're spending more of your time drunk than sober. When you're spending more of your time and money on booze than anything else.

Another thing that I hear with whiskey a lot more than other alcohols is that it makes people angry. My brother's said he felt unreasonably angry the last time he was drinking whiskey, a couple friends have said they just get violent when drunk on whiskey. Personally, I think that's bullshit... but I don't doubt that a whiskey drunk tends to be far more boisterous in general than many other types.
What kind of whiskey are you buying? Do you generally enjoy hard liquor for its taste, or do you NEED to mix? I need to mix Jack Daniels or Jim Beam with either Coke or Ginger Ale to drink 'em. They're too disgusting otherwise. Straight scotch, I'm frightened to admit, tastes delicious to me. I'll usually cut it with ice, but I don't really like the taste as it gets watered down. If you're mixing, I recommend Jack Daniels. If you're looking to try something straight, get yourself a decent scotch. Cheap brands will taste like the wooden barrels they're supposedly aged in, but a more top-shelf brand will just taste rather good.

He drinks beer on weekends only and Friday. Every day else, he strictly holds down that no one is allowed to drink unless it's the holidays.

Bah, it's all about control. People have said they feel like punching a woman while drinking Stella but I can't say I've felt the same way.

I prefer for taste. Although I like vodka to drink for taste than to mix it.
Also, relevance. I couldn't remember any names of anything anyone mentioned (sorry, next time if this goes okay I'll remember) and it was a small shop.
This too will pass.

Your dad is worried about you. It's not something that you should be pissed off with. You should realise he cares for you and then talk to him properly so he can understand, instead of just assuming that he doesn't know you.

He cares about you, as everyone else with a brain has said, so you have to admire that.
I'm not gonna tell you that drinking is bad or try to pass judgment on you because you're a big boy now, but it's nice to know that your own father cares enough to get worked up about it, I suppose.
I'm never much use in alcohol topics because I don't drink, personally.
I'm gonna go back to my room and be awesome.

I'm on the opposite end of that scale. My parents, brother, family, whoever, all pretty much tried to force alcohol down my throat. They swore I would eventually start drinking, and I assured them I wouldn't.
Then I went to university.

It's hard to blame him, because seeing as how you're only 18, if nothing else, he wanted to respect the law.

18 is the legal age for purchasing/consuming alcohol in many countries.
