i love film noir, and im a big fan of sin city because of it. these lack detail. what noir lacks in colours and form it should make up in detail and character/object positioning. try adding more detail and especially rain.
my mate has been doing it for his art and has done alot of epic, interestign and detailed poses in ink pen. time consuming but amazing to look at.
ya...thanks for the comment, but I would have appreciated a picture more. :| Also, I am working on improving detail, but I am not the greatest drawer yet, so I opted out of details I couldnt do to make it look good.

I think noir (or at least frank miller's work) is about positioning... Study some of his work, it is not very detailed, but positioning and perspective is a main factor.
But above all in noir, Light is the most important thing (paradoxical isn't it) work with your lighting...
sorry I didn't have a picture, I know from experience that this is very difficult
:( noir style isnt sin city style, I believe. In noir style, you are trying to capture the subject matter as simply as possible. Hence the use of lighting. I only really know this info from a book called how to draw noir comics. so it may just be his style of noir. Either way, though, I think I did it wrong. :(

I lied. :| apparently there is just a long range of ways to do the noir style. Oh well, mine is closer to the shapes not details side.

Film noir was created by the Jewish filmakers that fled to America from Germany during the Nazi regime. It's characterized by stiflingly complex scenery, unnatural lighting (also called German lighting), skewed camera angles, and urban settings. It often dealt with themes of repression and lived in a world where everyone was corrupt in varying degrees.
wow, awesome, even inspiring description!

I love noir movies.. and max payne was cool with the film-noir story and narration. I hope to see more art like this from more people...
"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead." - Charles Bukowski.
Keep in mind that Film Noir actually existed (though it didn't have a name at the time) before World War 2....and was deeply tied to the German Expressionist movement of the 1910's and 20's. A lot of Film Noir directors were Jewish-Americans, but I think it's unfair to simplify something as huge as Noir as being Jewish, let alone a direct response to World War 2. I don't usually say "check out Wikipedia" but hell, I looked over the article and it's more complete than my film school textbooks. Hell, there's still a debate about what exactly is Noir, since many Noir Directors didn't know they were shooting the style at the time. Wonky, right?
