Rolling Cigarettes? 2009-01-24 04:13:35 Reply

I am going kind of broke and I am tired of spending $7 on a pack of cigarettes every freaking week. Should I start buying pouches of tobacco, saving money, and rolling my own cigarettes or should I stick with buying packs because there is no hassle in rolling? And quitting is not an option.

Fuck you.

Damn that much for a pack of cigarettes? Where I live it's only 3 bucks for the kind I like, and those are the expensive kinds. I wouldn't do the roll your owns for three reasons:

1. They taste really nasty
2. They make your hands turn orange very quickly and make them smell sooo bad.
3. They are sometimes hard to roll if you don't know what you are doing, or if it's windy.

Stick to the good cigarettes or better yet just buy some cheap ones that taste close to the ones that you are used to.

Buy tobacco, or possibly do what my dad did. Chew tobacco instead of smoking.

How many do you smoke a day?

If you won't quit, maybe at least cutting down would be a good idea.

Rolling would be too much of a hassle for me, I'm lazy. But it's not a bad idea if you want to do it. My grandpa used to roll his own. I think he had a rolling machine too.

My state has one of the highest cigarette taxes in America, so I would be in heaven if I lived where you did. And I am underage so I pay a little extra to the people who buy them for me.

Now there's something I forgot about. Your fingers will totally be stained from rolling.

Ah I know how that is. I used to sneak packs of cigarettes from my dad when I was like 13 (man that was almost 15 years ago.... ahhh memories). But ayway see my previous post again for reasons why you shouldn't buy rollies.

Also, I still suggest that you just buy some cheap ones that taste close to the ones that you are used to.

rolling isnt so bad. If you like strong ciggarettes, rolling is quite chill. But 7 $ isnt so bad a price, I would say its quite cheap. In Norway its 10 $ for a 20-pack, and that is the same for all brands. I would reccomend starting with snus ( tobacco under the forelip, quite similar to spit, just that you dont have to spit all the time). Its a lot cheaper, and not so bad for your lungs. Perhaps its called snuff in english, (but its NOT what you put in you nose).

Yeah, if they are getting hard to pay for, stop letting your friend mooch.

Are you kidding me? I WISH I was spending only 7 bill/week. When you're shelling out 30+ a week, then you have right to complain. Until then asdfafsfdsafsfa

Should I start buying pouches of tobacco, saving money, and rolling my own cigarettes or should I stick with buying packs because there is no hassle in rolling? And quitting is not an option.

It is a very time consuming yet highly financially good idea. I had a roomie in college who would spend a few hours here and there rolling his own. He had a cigarette rolling machine made by Zig Zag where all you had to do was insert pre-fabricated empty cigarette tubes complete with filter (which were also sold by Zig Zag) into a little slot, then pile a little tobacco into a small channel, pull a lever and presto- perfectly packed, factory quality smokes. He bought his tobacco in 1 lb. bags from a smoke shop and I believe it was the Marlboro brand tobacco blend. The machine cost around 25-30 dollars, the tobacco about $15/lb. and the empty cig tubes were less than 4 dollars and contained 200 per box.

Minus the cost of the machine, one bag of tobacco and one carton of tubes yielded a full carton of cigarettes for only $20. Considering cigs are upwards of $50 per carton around here and you're paying 7 per pack, that's a considerable amount of savings. The machine basically pays for itself after just two uses. It was a time consuming process, but better to spend time than money.

fuck what anyone else says, rolling tobacco is so much better. Literally, it's better for your lungs because there's less chemical nastys in it, just the raw tobacco, it's cheaper to buy, you get alot more smokes out of it, and in my opinion, it tastes far better than normal cigs. The only negative is you'll need to learn how to roll your own.

Try cutting back if you can't afford it. Addictions are lame. There's a certain pride in rolling your own cigarette. There's a skill/knack to it and once you get it, you can look cool rolling your own smokes. You could also start selling smokes to minors for $1 a piece at school. My friends did that and made a decent killing.

1. They taste really nasty

no they dont

2. They make your hands turn orange very quickly and make them smell sooo bad.

probably not as fast as standard cigs

3. They are sometimes hard to roll if you don't know what you are doing, or if it's windy.

granted, but I've rolled up in hailstorms, rainy days and generally wherever I've felt the urge to smoke, it's not impossible

Found a website that sells some handy cigarette tubing machines for as little as 6 dollars American and topping out at about 35 bucks. The one I have seen in action to which I was earlier referring is the blue machine about mid page, and it turns out it falls in the lower price range. From what I saw it worked like a charm, so you may want to consider sending away for one of these things and start rolling your own on the cheap.

Not only is that totally greasy, it also goes to show that kids don't know the value of a dollar these days.
And nobody taught these kids how to just ask a stranger for a cig like when I was a kid?
What is this world coming to...

But in Alabama ciggies cost a lot. I know this because of a tax placed on them. Buy the cheap brands of cigs if I was you...

Ok people, in the United States of America $7 is fairly high for a pack of cigarettes (if you're not in New York). It costs about $4 for a pouch of tobacco where I live.
