Do you guys get bad reviews for some of your songs for no apparent reason? I dunno... It sorta sucks when someone rates your song a super low score and doesnt leave a message or a comment as to why exactly they gave you a bad review... Is there any point in that? Unless they're trying to lower everyone's score on the new songs page so that their songs get more views... But seriously? Man... It bugs me when people give me a random low rating... Which I honestly wouldnt mind if they would just comment why... O.o

Seriously... I would sorta like a justification for the rating of a song... Especially if it's a critical one... :P

Oh god, please don't bring the zerovoting whining into the lounge...

Yes, it sucks, zerovoters are the scum of the earth, we know, stop caring about your score and focus on the reviews. And if you absolutely must bitch about them, please do it here.

Say hello to 0-bombing. Basically, a lot of people just vote zero on other people's submissions so that theirs comes out on top. It happens to everyone.

USB Hubs

Can anyone recommend a decent USB hub? Also if my laptop supports USB 3.0 does that mean need a hub that supports 3.0? Now that I have an iLok, I'm running out of usb ports for my mouse :c

This is tantamount to vote manipulation, and I highly recommend against doing this!

Dude ch3ck th1s sh1zzle 0ut yo.

And if you want to spend the extra $$ for USB 3.0, then get this.

0 BOMBING AND ALL THAT BULLSHIT

Who CARES about a song score. If you want to market yourself, its not your score that will help, it is the reviews, the way you put yourself out there, and the steadily growing fan base you produce as a good artist. Don't worry about scores. Just keep on doing what you do. Sure, your score effects where you are on the top board. Want to know who checks those? Barely anyone. At all. The only time your score slightly matters is for top of the week, and that is a corrupt system anyway. Put yourself out there on soundcloud to really develop your fan base. Go to bandcamp as well. Hell, go to beatport. There are many places to go to where score doesnt even exist. NG for me isnt about score. Its about the fucking amazing community with amazing talent that helps improve everyone here. We have a huge mix too. Not just hip-hop. We have jazz, rock, heavy metal, trance, electro, house, and many, many more. Everyone just kind of flows together in one neat explosion of creativity and some awesome stuff is created.

In the long run, scores dont mean shit.

After I get moved into a new place and my finances are actually semi-stable again... I'll definitely jump on the supporter bit. Even if I've not been all that active for a while, this place is still one of my favorite sites on the interwebz... and the community here is too awesome to lose.

Plus, when the company I work for closes... I'll have a lot more time to spend online :P

Or you can just get a group of friends to vote fairly on the song, and seeing as they're your friends, this will probably be a 4 or a 5 anyway, which will also counteract the zero bombs, and is not against the rules.

Especially in the case of slipperlyslopes because his trance music is actually really good. He can do better kicks than me :C

It's against the rules because it's abusing the system for personal gain.

On the topic of voting:
The way I vote, I really only hand out 3's, 4's, or 5's. If a song is rated higher than I think it should be, let's say a 4.8 when it should be more like a 4 because of quality standards, I'll vote a 3 to have a greater effect. It's so that way the final score after many votes reflects, in my opinion, a more accurate representation of the average vote, impression, and quality of a piece.
To me, a song that rates 4.4 should always have a higher production value than a 4.2, and really only because of that. Personally, any song that can maintain a 4+ rating is a sign that it is in fact a good song with some polish. Scores in the 3.75 generally need more mixing or instrument/melody work. Sub-3.5 means both kinds of work are needed.
So, if I think a song should be 4.2, but it is rated a 5, I'll typically vote a 4 - or a 3 if I want my opinion to be felt when there are already a bunch of votes.

Just telling it like I see it.

To continue making the mold business work without my boss, I'd have to work his hours...

Whereas, I could basically double my income spending 20 hours a week making the sexy money. Or if I wanted to work 100 hours a week like my boss generally does... I could theoretically make $5,000 a week. Which I wouldn't make spending that time doing the mold work. :P

Hell, you should do that for like a year and get a million dollars. Thats what that adds up to right?

Statistical analysis of ratings when the current rating is visible to the voter actually takes this effect into account.

I think you misunderstood. It is not illegal prostitution, it is making porn. I actually have a friend who does this frequently, and she gets about $400 a week for doing it. I personally would never do it, but I feel everyone has the legal right.

New job!

In regards to this one...

I've somehow managed to combine my passion for web development and music, this time without making a lousy site no-one really cares about. After a process of many interviews over the course of more than a month, I got hired as a Front-End developer by a company you may have heard of: Digitally Imported!

If you haven't heard of them, they're an internet radio network offering 47 and counting electronic music channels. The biggest channel is by far the Trance channel which streams A State of Trance, Trance Around the World, Future Sound of Egypt and more shows by big names.

The company also runs sky.fm, which is a collection of channels of vary varying genres, as well as jazzradio.com and rockradio.com, which are self-explanatory.

If you didn't guess, I'm pretty excited about it.
