So I bought this necklace/pendant type thing at a night market while on holiday, and it was originally silver in colour. After having worn it around my neck for about a week or so, some of it has sort of corroded to this browny, coppery colour. It was pretty cheap so I'm not too fussed, but I wonder if anyone could tell me what kind of metal it might be and what is making it happen?
It's funny because today I had an science test about this subject (which was ridiciously easy).
If you're sure that it is silver, it has most likely reacted with oxigen to silveroxide, which can give that kind of color. You can get it off by putting the necklace in water that has some soda in it (not the Kenan & Kel kind of soda, but REAL soda), together with a smaal chuck of aluminum foil.
If that didn't work....it's not silver. ;)
