If you are talking about musical phrasing... 8 and 16 bar patterns are very common in many types of music, especially electronic music.

Impressions of Norway (so far)

Cold in summer and autumn, wet and stormy right now (lost some concerts because of the weather, some roads were closed because of floods and stones falling), but when is sunny the nature looks AMAZING !!!
Also, Norwegians seems to be some of the nicest and warmest people, they told me that chocolate cake is sort of national dish.
In public libraries you find Ac/Dc, Squarepusher and stuff (probably as "last century classical music").
Here's a pic taken by my wife:

Shit... that looks like it's straight out of Lord of the Rings or Skyrim (or whatever other fantasy land you can think of). Just absolutely stunning and beautiful. Hopefully I can travel there someday and see an amazing view such as that.

For some reason, when I saw this post yesterday, I thought it said--

Not that anybody remembers what happened 10 years ago.

--and I was like, "I don't remember what happened ten years ago."

Then I thought, "What did FatKid do to get himself owned ten years ago?"

Don't judge me.

Obama was killed

In my dream. No seriously. He was looking at some sort of painting exhibition when all of a sudden this guy shows up behind him and cuts his throat with a giant knife. The last thing he said was 'What of all this was actually real?!', and his killer whispered 'The carpet...', and then he drops dead. I have no clue what this means, but I'm kinda freaked out because of that.

Trying to come back to composing

Don't think this is worth a topic. My audio subs - don't bother checking them. I tried making music on a DAW for a while and had some success, but more often I would get discouraged. So I took a two months break. Now the urge to compose has returned, but I am kind of afraid to scare this feeling off.

I mean, I write stuff on the guitar, but DAW wise I am a noob. When I open the DAW, I just get overwhelmed by all the stuff. I mean, I know how to use the DAW, but I don't know how to execute many tricks and I even don't know how they're called. And I guess time is another issue. When I look up stuff and analyze I lose time, and hey, don't get me wrong, I enjoy this hobby and I would spend countless hours playing, composing if I could, but the situation I am currently in doesn't leave me with much time D:

So yeah, guys, can you recommend me some reading material, which I could perhaps tackle during school breaks and etc? Input will be greatly appreciated

Not that I am a good, but ambient and trance interest me quite a bit. And honestly, I started to develop a taste for classical D:

So, Dream Trance? I love that genre...

For classical, I love Debussy. I just bought a whole book filled with Debussy songs... his stuff brings back so many memories.

And at MrSaint
Why not just listen to that has qualities that captivate you and work on recreating elements of that ni your own way? I've been finding Carbon Based Lifeforms and Solar Fields both leave me wanting to make a trancey-ambient album when they're on.

Hello. It's The Mohabot here, and I would be happy if you have any time reading this. It's not too long, so don't worry.

I used to enjoy making music a bit... I did. And those were the times when my submissions to NG received attention. I've never been so passionate about this hobby I could reach the same status of The Chemical Brothers, but interests I do have... somewhere deep within, that I temporarily can't find. I am not sure if the population of "good hearted" people have just reduced in amount or if its just me whos gone pretty crap at creating (which I actually think plays role apart for other reasons stated). Then there's a possibility that NG simply has moved on to the next generation = younger population.

I notice the quality differs vastly between a song and another due to sheer lazyness and being unmotivated. Without ambition, its pretty certain I wont pull off anything decent, and if Im lucky and do, then the song will be half finished/half arsed. One could sound pretty darn good while the other sound as if someone tone deaf created it. The interest comes and goes, but its just getting less and less.

Am I lonely about this feeling?

PS.

Here is a somewhat related motivational esteem boosting image that speaks a lot of truths.

Pretty do-able if you're accustomed to the many practices that can be done, able to stick to a key, and not over complicate so you can read meter readouts. I've done it a few times as a one hour composition practice and its a good practice of sorts. Writing audio without audio feed is usually called blind-writing (rather colloquial).

Certainly more fun then blind fold blind writing.

As of the moment I'm mainly buying new things as old things break (I have Pro Coverage through Guitar Center, so if things break during the coverage period they send me gift cards for the original purchase price of the equipment)

It works out pretty awesome, because that's how I've been gradually upgrading a lot of things. However, it means that I generally don't sell much off. It just gets cycled with new things directly.

Plus, I'm bad about wanting to hoard audio equipment... I've got at least 10 instruments that I rarely even touch. >_<
