Orphaned Land

How I never came across this band before is extremely fucking weird. It's a metal/rock band from Israel/Pakistan that uses traditional middle eastern instruments (like saz and oud) in their music to make a middle eastern folk metal.

.... HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THAT!? I jizzed in my pants when I listened to them! I've been looking for a middle eastern style folk metal band for damn near forever and now I've found one! I mean come on! They play metal with middle eastern instruments and chanting and shit!!! I'M FUCKING PUMPED!!!!!

STOP RIGHT THERE RAHMEMHOTEP! You fucked up on the hugest scale possible! While you were so hyped about this "Orphaned Land" band your thoughts wandered off and you wrote "Pakistan" instead of "Palestine"! Shame on you!

Quick question

Quick question, because don't want to make a whole new thread about it especially since there are a lot of threads about MIDI keyboards.

My cousin got a MIDI keyboard for Christmas and he let me try it out using his laptop and FL Studio. It's really cool and I wish I had one, but when recording and putting notes into the piano roll, the response wasn't 100% perfect and sometimes when I pressed a note it didn't necessarily put it in the piano roll at the same time that I pressed it.

Is this because of the keyboard, DAW or the computer's specs?

sounds like what happens when my keyboard is kinda plugged in but not quite, or if I messed with its onboard settings and haven't hard reset it in a while

Likely computer specs. Play with the buffer length, drop it really low and you'll get great play back, but at a choppier sound. If you have a good sound card setup to an asio driver, you can probably get down to like 10-30ms latency without any processing clipping.

It's very much because of the latency. On laptops, their responses are typically much slower to midi than are computers (because laptops don't generally have as good processors as computers). So it's just the latency. Usually, the plug is not a problem, It's either in, or it's not in.

Synthesizer Trouble

Ok, since I'm on the verge of going crazy, I was considering getting a Yamaha synthesizer, it didn't have anything special, No mod wheel, pitch wheel, nothing, Just Some preset sounds and MIDI compatibility.
What Should I do, get Yamaha, or anything else. I'm at a budget of 150Euro, so, yeah :P

Suggestions?

Fuck no. You'd be better off buying a midi keyboard with a bunch of control buttons then. General midi sounds suck. I've got a keyboard that exactly fits your description and it's awful. Get something like this instead, it will serve your music much better.

I will have to double on this. Most midi presets are pretty bad. I have a keyboard which actually has really really good sounds, but I can only play the sounds, not actually have the samples on hand. It's better if you buy a midi keyboard and then the samples/plugins separately. This way you get more for your money.

Why would you ever do such a thing? I heard if you put salt on wounds that makes it feel better. Then add lemon.

Hey dudes, just thought I'd drop by and introduce myself. My name's Will, and I'm a sound editor/mixer based in NYC. I've been on NG for a few years now, but this is my first time on the forums.

So...er...hi!
