Maybe when they're made by people who have no knowledge of how to make a decent chiptune..
I cant believe that for some reason chiptunes are equal to 'a joke' to you (apparently)

Chiptunes are no joke!

Hi. You don't know me, but I'm refraining from my lurking to slap my dick on this page.

Chiptunes is how you hear it, just like any other genre. Your feelings for and from it will always differ even slightly from someone else. There are people who flat out hate it and won't listen to it for anything, while others love it.

At the same time, there's also a level of consumer loyalty that comes with preference. When most people think 8Bit here, my name or yours, Cal, don't immediately come to mind. They think, "Oh hey, that guy who does really good techno and trance also does 8Bit! Let's listen!" and that's okay.

The way I see it, nothing should be critisized, its reception questioned, because of how simple it is. Minimalism can be amazing as well, when done right, and Chronamut's songs emulated that pretty well.

Wait, why did I write this whole essay on 8Bit music? No one's going to read this. 8Bit is music, and shouldn't be taken that seriously, there.

haaa. :)
Man, this is the lounge, people normally talk about taking things up the ass (literally) and slapping the faces of little children, and kittens. Posts in here should be taken with a grain of salt, and i too greatly exagerate all i post here.
-

NOW REPLYING TO THE OTHER GUYS
Still, 8bit actually 'is serious buisiness in a way since back when 1000 years ago (before leonidas walked the earth in that town called jerusalem) people had no programs to do effects or something and they had to battle it out with really good tunes to be noticed, not just generic unts unts or fwwwsss ba bo ba bo ba bo znnnnn fwwwsss (thats orchestral btw) with the same chord progression like 50 times over and 99% of people was payed irl to vote 5 for laif.

No, they had to make megaman's music or battle of olympus's music to make a game good.
Hell even simons quest will never be taken from my heart and memory (i have pretty bad memory btw) because it had a great theme.

And then i listen to the goddamn ice cream truck...

Mmmmokay then sorry. Yeaaah I specifically didn't want to get into the 4th plateau. I probably won't be doing it again for a while if ever considering it's one of those salvia type things where you do it once or twice just to experience it and that's enough for you.

But you're right I wouldn't go into it thinking it's just a fun thing to do, and DEFINATELY don't do it if you're looking for something quick. I didn't get any sleep and everytime i got up to go to the bathroom I had forgotten how to walk and had to reteach myself and didn't recognize where I was because it was dark. The entire trip lasted probably 5-7 hours, I'm not entirely sure when it wore off but yeah it was kind of scary not knowing how to walk correctly or where I was. Also I couldn't fall asleep at all because everytime I closed my eyes I'd be looking at myself trying to sleep.

ohhh man. sorry for laughing but i know all of what you just described too well. it's been probably five years but if i remember correctly the last time i tried dxm was during a band practice. i couldn't play my drums because i couldn't hold my sticks and hit things. eventually i just started falling asleep on my kit. it felt like forever but i think the practice only lasted like five minutes. i tried to take a nap but i just couldn't stop feeling cold and itchy. i gave up with trying to get rest and i tried telling my friend jack that i was on dxm but i couldn't remember how to use my mouth to make sensical words. he figured it out though. the bassist was also tripping and he had managed to find a way to convey his thoughts...

now we spam this thread in an attempt to rush to the next page before rucklol notices and bans our audio mod asses.

The lounge

Wow, I go to evening school for a couple of hours, come back, and we're 2 pages further. What I can make from it is that calamaistr was being everything but modest, and a lot of self-advertising 8-bit stuff and mockery, mixed with a bit of DXM talk. Right?

Well, wow.

also lol meta

Reading
Ever since I got my kindle (like 1.5-2 months ago), I've been addicted to reading. Uncle loans has been bestowing me with science-fiction (as 97% of his huge-ass literature collection consists of the stuff, and I've loved every bit of it. DO YOU GUYS READ?

yes I do believe calamaistr's stuck-upedness is finally getting tiring.

oh wait, it never was untiring - in fact - from the moment his first post was posted here his reputation was cemented as I recall.

ignored - moving on.

hmm perhaps I came off a bit harsh there.. but really cala - we get you're a classical composer and that you're steepedi n the old traditions and stuff - but the reality of it is - most people on this site - aren't.
