That's what liquid funk dnb is.

Thats what i am trying to explain my song "color this world" does not have jazz/blues/house influence. But my song has trance/dance/classical riffs. its a mix i am trying to make of TranceStep and Classical.

I must master the art of the brown noise before I go that far.

Marching Competition

Just got home from the marching competition. Although we didn't win any awards I was pleased with the end result. We got a lot of good buzz considering it has been 2 years since our last contest. Off to another one next week.

Made-Up Genres

Made-up genres are so silly. I think people put more creativity and effort into making up the genre name than actually making their music good.

Food

Today I toasted lightly 2 slices of wonderbread. I buttered both sides, applied a heavy sum of nutella to one side, and spread oreo-vanilla ice cream to the other. I slapped them together and ate it.

I think I will continue to make more hot-cold sandwhiches.

So by your logic: if the song is good, let them make up their own genre name? I can work with that trade off.

Also that nutella and oreo ice cream sandwich sounds nice.

Don't blame me, it's been 8 hours.

Mixing/Mastering

I've got this song finally set up and finished. I may add a slight more to it but my main target right now is mixing and mastering. My problem is compared to most of my other songs, the levels and pitch seam to not blend as I expected. Anyone have any tips on this?

did you remember to strip out and levels you don't need?

what about staggering them in the forground and bg so that they don't interfere? Widening the stereo spectrum so that things have more space?

reverse sidechaining? (Boosting volume whenever something kicks in the lower the volume)

Toronto Meetup

Yeah I'm currently figuring what levels I want exactly. I might try reverse sidechaining, it could work out nicely at some point. The only thing I could do is widen the stereo but I'm not exactly how to go about that.

I am goiing to say this assumngi you use fl studio..

in fl studio there is a knob on the main mixer bus by the 3 level eq and the pan knob.. if you extend it all the way to the left it is one step in widening your song - you can also do this or each channel.

you can also use the stereo shaper.. if you can get it to not crash

Perosnally I use what is called a buzz effect - a fl studio buzz plugin I got years and years ago called cheapo spread - I use 2 - and extend one side and lower the other, and then the reverse for the other one - this helps to widen all my songs - I've used it religiously for years.. pm me and I'll send it to you - I don't think you can find it online anymore.

Yeah I'll PM you about that and look into the default way to widen. Then spend the next couple days mixing this song well so I can upload it.

Has anyone else here reached that point where they're at war with music? Essentially you enjoy it, but you also hate it at the same time.

Music takes up all my time, so in a way I dislike aspects of it because that will never end, but how do you hate it? I could understand marriage being compared to a love/hate relationship.

And at second thought, whats that have to do with war? You enjoy war? Do you live in the states? Do you sell oil? I KNEW IT.

Lol, I mean that I'm having that love-hate relationship with music. There's just days where I can't stand it. Especially on Wednesdays, where I have music history, music theory, audio production classes all in the same day. The last thing I want to do is hear or try to create a piece of music.

Ahh okay, yea I almost have the same problem. I have 7 courses with 5 music classes and I can understand being a bit overwhelmed on the days where I study music for 12-15 hours.

The last thing I want to do is hear or try to create a piece of music.

Well for me I am always eager to use what I learn in school and apply it to my music, but after 10-12 hours study everyday theres pretty much only time for a cold brew and chat with girlfriend before going to sleep. In fact every song I've made since august has been in replacement of sleep haha

hating music

only when i want to go to sleep and in my head is continually playing all sorts of complicated classical arrangements, both pieces ive heard and my own ideas, its hell..especially since i dont want to wake up to late so i cant do anything with it.. for some reason the best ideas come when its bed time. :l

Love-Hate Relationship

I'm sure at some point every artist comes to this with music. One side of me loves to hear and play music, while the other simply can't stand it. It's funny really.

anyone who says they hate music is a liar. Tell a deaf person that, I bet they'd stab you in the face. Music is probably one of the greatest things on Earth (atleast to me) and really can't be beaten by anything else.
