reality on the horizon
So i've told a few of you about this (irc regs i guess.), but a guy I've worked with once or twice here in fort wayne is moving forward on a project to start a professional theater here in fort wayne. He's planning on a full season, include a summer stock deal. He's going to be making an offer on the building in the next week or two, and it's all very exciting.
What's even more exciting is that he's offered me a full time lighting design position, at a 'real' salary, that is to say, more money than i've ever made at any point up to now. Unless something unexpected happens, I'll probably be having a real job as a lighting designer, and quite possibly doing quite a bit of sound as well. More than a couple of the people I've gone to school with (for theater) and who have since graduated and been in the real world have not found SHIT in the field, so I'm more than willing to start taking classes part time while I have a chance to not only work in the real world, but to be involved with a theater from the very beginning.
I went to sweetwater today to work out how we might spend the (not insignificant) amount of money he plans to set aside for audio, and it was -very- promising. Looking at a yamaha O1V 24ch digital board, for one, along with a load of QSC cabs. Very exciting.
We'd be looking at being operational as early as may, according to some of the contractors. The building is really promising, it's got space for everything, stage, scene shop, costume shop, rehearsal hall, two apartments to house big names, storage space and everything.
I'm pretty pumped.
