Agreed. Telling someone that the music they like sucks isn't going to automatically make them like it less, and it sure as hell isn't going to make them like your favorite music. In fact, they probably think it's pretty douchey of you to be a music elitist. Everyone has their own opinions, but there are still great artists in the genre, past & present. Likewise, there's a WHOLE lot of trance that is crap. There's good & bad in every genre, and everyone likes what they like.

You can hate their music all you want, but it probably won't change much. If someone walked up to you & told you that "all 'techno' sounds the same, and it sounds like horrible shit" (which many, many people think) and they can't tell the difference between trance & house, etc etc...how would you feel? You wouldn't be like "oh, holy crap, you're right! I've been blind all this time!"

It ain't that hard to do better than Kanye. It's called scratching the surface and discovering you know, all the rappers out there who aren't Kanye yet are better than Kanye.
Now I'm very happy for you and I'mma let you finish...

Wait
Is mixing and mastering just in say, terms of FL, using filters etc?

Mixing

Mixing is working on the leveling of different elements in a track, either by just leveling the volume, or by equalizing the elements. (Using an equalizer....obviously). This mixing is done to give every element in the track it's place, so everything comes through as much as it needs to. Doing the mixing for one channel on the mixer is best done when everything plays, so you can directly hear how it fits in the full mix. (Where everything plays)

Mastering

Mastering is what you do to the final output, say, the master mixer channel in FL studio. This is usually some compression/limiting and perhaps some equalizing too, all on the whole song. (it can be done after exporting). This mastering is done to optimize the 'full' sound of the track, without killing the dynamics.

Now don't shoot me if I'm wrong about any of these, but please correct me if I am.

*ahem*

Soooo.. onto another subject

Making videos for music uploads for youtube and such
I just did a mashup and figured... "Hey, why not start uploading these mashups to youtube?"

So I sat down and loaded the mp3 into Nero's movie thingy.. put a background image in, set the resolution to 640xwhatever and some scrolly text... and then the mimimum stream resolution.

AND THE SHIT IS STILL 75mb FOR A 5 MINUTE SONG?!

So is it just me? Or are video formats just that chunky? Also... anyone got a better method for this shit?

Yeah video files are maddd chuncky. That's why some people have terabites of hard drive space to edit movies and what not.

I used to use Flash to be honest. I would import the song and throw up some random image.
It worked fine, and I don't think the file sizes were too big either.

I seees... And thus why Youtube has a 10 minute length limit.. but a 2GB filesize limit.

eh, I'd use flash too.. but I never put it on this computer and I don't really feel like hunting down my old copy of it just to make music vid things.. I may look around a bit though

You're completely wrong. You're using a false stereotype and are listening to the music for the wrong reasons. Actually listen to the words in a rap song. Rapping is much more difficult than you think. It's poetry in time. And a lot of artists actually make their own beats. You really don't know anything.

Thar is the video thingy for the mashup. I noticed this weird clicky noise was added.. probably due to the software I'm using.. I may try the windows movie maker or something along those lines and see how that works in comparison.

Oh wells.. suggestions?

The clicky-ness just sounds like shit audio compression. Video editors kinda do that. What did you use? Windows Movie Maker squishes it all to .wma, so I don't know if that would be any better.

That said, HOLY SHIT, I LOVE INNER UNIVERSE. <3 <3 <3 Origa is one of my favorite artists, and her voice is amazing. It took me quite a while to approximate her style. Sick-ass mashup.

I have Inner Universe and Rise on my .mp3 player and they both get frequently hit up. I downlo-er, bought one of Origa's albums and none of it is anything like Inner Universe. It's cookie-cutter jap rock.

Well, Yoko Kanno is a pretty badass composer. "Rise," "Player," and "Date of Rebirth" are also cool, although I think only "Rise" comes close to comparing to "Inner Universe."

I like Origa's albums Era of Queens and Aurora. Some of her post-2004 singles are nice, too, but her pre-2004 stuff was mostly pretty light/poppy/folksy.

Related Stuff
And the last bit of related self-whoring. The DL link for that mashup

Anywho... yeah.. after listening to it in the truck, I realized without a sub it really sounds like it is lacking. Much props to Yoko Kanno as well though... Inner Universe may very well be one of the best songs ever made... uhhh... EVAR. (And I've had that for years.. so not from your HD Soluusss lol)

On the other hand... yeah.. meh for video stuffs.. that's a good bit of work.. hopefully I find a better method because I'd love to start bringing the mash on more often.. especially since I've really cut down a lot on the production end of things to focus on DJing.

Annnd...

My website..

EEEEP! That needs a whole hell of a lot of work.

I'm planning on rebuilding from scratch with a WordPress-based site most likely.. and probably on another host so I have more or less unlimited bandwidth to host big mixes and videos once I start making em.

Anndddd... Shit I'm up to....

ZOMG I JUST GOT BACK FROM LOOKING AT THE DECOR FOR A PARTY I'M DJING SATURDAY AND IT IS AWESOMEEEE!!!

I'm DJing a haunted house party... anndd... it's already got some of the most intricate decor I've ever seen.. like.. full-out haunted house... you enter, go down a slide.. through some rooms.. with a coffin.. doll heads... all sorts of creepy shit. EVEN A GIANT OUIGA BOARD BEER PONG TABLE!

sooo... uhhh.. yeah.. I'm really excited for it. I'm going to drop a bunch of demented jungle and psytrance.. plus some good funky electro house and whatnot.. but...

on that note...

Feel free to suggest any songs that fit the theme! =D

YOINKED.

as for vids, I produce with Adobe Premiere, but yeah it's a space & CPU whore. And complicated. I love it but I've used it for too long.

...holy shit, how are you even gonna transition those BPMs? That's like... 128 to 148, electro to psytrance. :P as for awesome tracks... older tracks, but Psycraft - Memories Inside, & Infected Mushroom - I Wish (Original Mix or Skazi Remix) are both dirty, dirty psytrance tracks to drop. and yeah, I've been on a nostalgia kick, listening to them.

LUUULLLLZZ

I don't really know the best response to that. I don't want to go around swinging the DJ dong.. but 128-148 as far as a transition goes is... well.. easy? Especially electro to psytrance. But then again, I mash genres all the time, it's what I'm starting to get known for here locally I guess.

100 bpm hiphop with 145 bpm psy? That's standard stuff.

I've recently gotten into mashing dancehall reggae with dubstep as well... but yeah.. I'm done. lol

I'll try to show a bit of that with future mashup uploads.. I'm a bit behind the powercurve on getting the online bit for the DJing together honestly.

Great track suggestions though! I've definitely got some of their new album lined up. (Especially the Riders on the Storm remix.. seems like a fitting track)

One of these days I'll try to get on Stickam and do a DJ set.. I'll try to mention that in advance if people want to check it out. Oh yeah, and that mix contest in the forum... I'mma bring it heavy >=3

Rap Music

Honestly, whenever I hear a kids iPod too loud, it is usually mainstream rap, and it sounds easy as fuck. TR808 and FL Core if you ask me. The synth (usually shitty pads) is a different question though, but nevertheless it's simple to make a rap beat like Kayne. Mind you Kayne is a bastard in the first place, and alot of mainstream rap artists are dicks themselves. It seems they are only in it for the money :\

On another note.
I finally got my rank to Town Watch. I've been lurking the flash portal due to my ban from reviewing and i've helped the judgements of certain flashes and stuff ( -cough-Super Mario Brothers Z Ep. 8-cough- and... Sean and Justin, as well as Facebook Problem.

I've finally joined the rest of the bunch and caught a mild cold. Happy now?

Rap Music

I love rap music, i even love that few of you are confusing rap music and hip hop. yes there is a difference.
i love hip hop too.

yes its hard to weed out all the crap that goes along with mainstream rap and hip hop like that fuckin song."Just thro it in the bag" i mean seriously.. a song about shopping and louis viton bags.... i thought only madonna and the pussycat dolls were allowed to make such crap about shopping. Personally i dont like rap and hip hop that is about money bitches shopping and other such stupid subjects.(like grills - fucking nelly should die)

im not a big fan of little wayne or kanye but once in a while ill be driving and i wont have my i[pod playing and ill be bobbing my head to some lil wayne. WHY~?~?~ because the beat is dope or its well produced and i liked it....

Liking or disliking music because of who the artist is, is frankly retarded. I thought people liked music because it sounds nice. Its all you little fucking 15 yr olds that like artist image just as much as you like artist music that ruin listening to mainstream for the rest of us music snobs. Just because you heard they dont make their own beats or because they use autotune doesnt mean they arent talented. Think about the talented producers involved. Its their music just as well as the artists on the CD cover. Think of it like a band... a band that isnt on the cover but gets paid nonetheless.

I listen to so many different types of music, WHY would i leave mainstream out. Yeah most of it is boring or just too damn silly to take seriously but there are some good things out there. Ill go from listening to Fela Kuti to MSTRKRFT to immortal technique to Vivaldi to Bjork then to Lady GAGA.. all in all i think are very good.

Funny how you respond to a post on mainstream with "Amen, brother!" XD

Anyway, yeah, I agree with you there SymCym, although I truly despise Kanye West. One of his tracks (can't remember the name) is simply a sped up version of a '70s song. I hate artists who don't produce their own tracks and act cocky. I especially dislike it when he's trying to come over as a knight on a white horse in his verses. But enough on that.

Quitting

Day 3 no cigarettes. I had an uplifting experience. I didn't gasp for air when I woke up this morning :)
I think I've mastered the technique of quitting cause I tell myself every year "yeah this is gonna be the time...but after this pack" or "after school...cause this is too stressful" or "when I get a promotion" but nooo
I never quit. Then I got super sick. started hackn up all sorts of blackness and I was like.. wow.. fuck that.

Mmm...I mean, mashing is one thing, but I usually don't hear good transitions from separate tracks over more than 10 bpm, because speeding things up to oblivion can get risky. I'd like you to prove me wrong more.

but then again, I'm a cookie-cutter prog ->uplifting ->psy-or-tech-or-hard progression trance DJ. :P
