Firefox problem

Yeah, it won't show the NG audio player for some reason. I've tried installing flash again, re-installing Firefox and none of it works. Also, I can play flash games and view shit in the flash portal but when I try listen to a song, it just shows up blank where the player is. Can anyone help?

P.S. Everything works fine in Internet Explorer so I know it's Firefox.

Ok, last night I had one hell of a time. I met this guy outside the local bar the other night and shared a few shots with him. He was talking a lot about non-traditional hip-hop and trip hop, wherein I interjected what I do for a hobby. He asked me what I know about the drums, then I started going on about different patterns and breaks I know, along with dynamic control (ghosting) and different sounds for different genres. He initially seemed impressed until he asked if I could play the drums, which in all honesty, I don't. Sure I can play a basic pattern, and maybe a slow-paced breakbeat if I take a couple minutes to practice.. other than that I can't do shit. Then he started getting in my face about how if I don't play drums I don't know drums. He kept repeating that exactly to me, no matter what I tried explaning, to the point of it becoming infuriatingly taunting. "you don't know drums if you don't play drums".

Maybe it was because I had those shots of blueberry sky, or maybe it's the fruity loops I had for breakfast.. (you got pun'd) but seriously, if he was speaking literally about drums, sure my knowledge is minimal, I know what each part is consisted of and what function they serve, how to fix snare drums, etc, etc. I just can't comprehend the multitasking it requires to play them, without a good amount of practice behind me that is.

So I ask you, did I drink to much and make a stupid argument in saying that I "DO" know drums? Or was I out of line with this supposed "drum-core" student?

Well even thou i make DnB. I never even touched a real Drum set. So do you know drums? Well in theory i will assume you know your stuff but in practice you have little to no knowledge. So in my opinion you could have admitted that you dont know drums in practice but know alot in Theory.

But if it was me. I wouldnt be even be drinking any acohol. My religion doesnt forbid drinking, but its a choice i made. And i would say that im a electronic producer. It gives them a better image of what you actually do.

Knowin' drums

Saying that you 'know drums' implies that you play the musical instrument. You may be very familiar with writing for percussion of a given genre, but the word 'drums' evokes the image of the musical instrument, which is something that takes some level of skill to manipulate.

It's silly semantics, but it's not an insignificant distinction.

It's like saying you know music when all you do is put a few Garageband loops together, man.

KNOWING DRUMS

that entire conversation you had with that drummer is why i dont get drunk and talk to strangers that are musicians cause most of them think the reason why i dont talk much about music is because i suck at drums... while meanwhile i dont suck at drums,

i had this one other drummer telling me i dont know shit about drums or music. i was at a bar watching my friends band play so i asked my friend if i could get on drums for a song..his drummer was a .little pissed about it but once i explained why he was fine with it and had fun watching the guy while i was playing... my friend let me get on drums for a cover song... we did a sick ass dnb jam on sublime's song "what i got"..... the kid was speechless.. i just ignored him the rest of the night..... This is why when people tell me they are musicians i just let them speak and i sometimes dont even tell them i play. cause most musicians you meet in bars are either terrible or they have huge egos about it. I can say about 20% of all the musicians i have ever met are cool about it and can have a conversation without being dicks.

but about your convo with the guy at the bar. yeah you know a good deal about drums... you do produce music.. just because you lack the physical skill to do amazing things on drums doesn't mean you have no clue what to do.... you may not have the skill but you have the knowledge....n that other guy you were talking to sounds like an ego maniac....

Lol, so many songs here can go in the copy+paste genre...

Though the guy certainly was a dick, there IS a difference between being an audio producer and musician, I believe.

It does take a lot of hard work and skill to become proficient at an instrument, so most musicians do talk about it as a badge of honor as sorts. I mean, I have been playing/learning the piano for 10+ years, and it DOES piss me off when I see someone belt out with great difficulty a hackneyed version of Coldplay's Clocks, and then get praised for it. It doesn't make me feel elitist in any way to think "Gosh, I worked hard for something and then a guy doesn't even try and expects to get shown respect? How precocious!"

Not saying you are on that boat, but I am sure we have all felt this way before in some aspect of our life.

Personally, I'm pretty self-effacing when it comes to talking about my own skill at the keyboard/piano. Yeah, I'm alright, but considering there are so many people so absolutely better than I am, it doesn't allow any non-humble feelings to creep in a whole lot. I can't stand receiving compliments for playing music. I never feel like I deserve them.

Don't catch me wrong, I wasn't trying in any way to proclaim superiority over this guy, not that I think you are assuming that... I respect without a doubt the drummer in anyone. I guess I should just lay off the sauce, or just lay off the production topic when I am on the sauce :P

NG harasser

I went to my newest news post and saw I got a new comment

yay

So I clicked on the comments, and to my surprise, I got a comment from some retard. Apparently his 7 year old son, Ethan, has been using this website and someone asked him to take off his clothes and pose nude. He blamed me, along with about anyone that he runs into on NG. I think it's funny. I guess he doesn't live in a country with child porn laws, because for him to wildly freak on everyone like that is obviously a fake or something. But yeah, some funny shit to laugh at. check out my news post for more info and such.

But let's forget about that
Just a normal day, other than that. found out that my overall average right now in math is 84, and prelims come out next Tuesday, so I can't wait for that ^_^

Let's just say i'm doing exceptionally well in school.

I know what you mean. I keep getting compliments for music I do, but I can never really take them seriously. It depends on who the compliment comes from, I guess. If some awesome producer told me my music was good, then I'd be strutting around all day, but it doesn't really mean the same when someone who isn't as musically inclined tells me. :P

First off, what if they changed the HTML coding? Like, if the bold code changed. This louge would be pretty fucked up :P

Musicians that think they are gods

Lmao, if I was in that situation... Nevermind, I ain't old enough to be in that situation.

I'm sitting here, staring at my old computer, it's Stand By mode power light blinking, like it wants to be turned on... Oh man, if only that computer wasn't at least 6-10 years old...

NEED A CELLPHONE!

It's official, i'm probably the lowest class in terms of being a regular teenager. I make techno music, stay inside all day, listen to anything but rap music... But the worst of all... NOT HAVING A CELLPHONE. It's probably been a burden on me for half a year now. I need some kind of phone, even if it's shitty, I just need a fucking cellphone. Staring at Mich's phone on the first page of the AF isn't helping either...

Jeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaloussssss.

Just the screen on them alone is ubersex.

Hopefully this means that the CDJ1000 Mk3's will go down in price. Wouldn't mind replacing my 400's. Awwwww, but they're so tiny and cute :3

Oh gawd, a price drop would be fabulous. But I don't think they'll drop unless 2000s become club standard (which the 1000s are right now)-- and I don't think that's too likely because of the economy. So far only rich bastards of DJs, and people with more credit cards than sense, have gotten these. :P

re: spinning: for me, it's just a love of music, as cheesy as it is, and the rush of sharing it & structuring separate tracks into a cohesive experience for other people...durrr i'm a sap.

CDJ2000

the price for em is indeed ridiculous, and i can't belive how pioneer equipment can have such a plastic feel to them, yet be among the very top on the market.

still, i don't play CD much... i got numark hdx and cdx, but the hdx CD-reader is buste. can't afford to toss it into repair, so i'm sticking to my 1210's instead.
vinyl is way more fun than CD anyways :p

Regarding Physical Media

Frankly, as far as owning a physical copy of music, I consider vinyl more satisfying. Any debate you might have about quality aside. There's something much more visceral about this big, physical encoding of sound than a plastic disk.

That's the main draw for me.

Much agreed on the CDJ 2000s. Those are definitely the sex.

For now, I'll be happy with my Xponent.. really, I doubt I'll ever move to physical media again considering that I've been using an all-digital setup for quite a while now.

There's just so much more I can do with this setup than I could in something like ScratchLive...

Howeeevveerr... the tactile feel of a motorized platter is very hard to replace.

Which of course is why the Numark NS7 is so appealing. I honestly see that sort of thing as what will probably replace vinyl at some point. I just don't get CDJs anymore though. It's already digital. Why not just move up to running off of usb to pull the data instead of bothering with discs? They're basically pointless. I mean.. you burn the data from computer to disc normally to use them... and you have to switch them all the time while playing.. so why not just skip the hassle and go straight from data?

Vinyl I get though. It's just so damn satisfying to mess with. I'd love to see a midi mixer with full-size motorized platters AND an assload of effects knobs and triggers.

That would be my ideal setup. (Maybe M-Audio will integrate motorized platters into it's next mixer? I'd be willing to put a grand and a half into that.)

I still buy CDs, myself, though I am sure you are all talking about a different aspect than just listening.

Because frankly, the music I like to enjoy most of all rarely makes its way onto widespread digital release.

It's hard to find outside of CDs or vinyls stuff by say, Morton Feldman or Mauricio Kagel, or Steve Reich or Gyorgy Ligeti. Not enough people care about them for that to happen.

My housemate has the earlier ones. He's so pumped to get these. I've been looking at videos and shit, and they are just amazing. They've made it so much easier for the DJ to sync, cut, make, pretty much anything right there on the CDJ alone.

The mixer is also sick. Pioneer really out-did themselves with these.
