I'm too serious.

Lately, I've been noticing that I have close to zero tolerance for people being retards/people having fun.

For example, I posted on the wall of a facebook group where they used 'U' instead of 'you'. I can't stand people letting down on their proper English like that for some reason. People on the group instantly got pissed at me and told me I needed to take a chill pill.

Now with this 'crisis' (lol) I just have the feeling like all that off-topic derailment in typical threads shouldn't be allowed. It just annoys the hell out of me.

Do you guys have any tips for me to gain some sense of humour and/or open up for some 'normal' fun again? I see the internet as serious business for real I think, and that's probably the problem. AFL, HELP.

Take a couple days off from the internet. Go out and spend time with friends. They'll loosen you up. I have the same problem from time to time. Although it might be easier for me because I live with my friends. But give it a try, I've always found that to help.

it's all diet bro. try eating an apply for breakfast every day first thing when you wake up, and see if that makes you feel any better. sense of humour is directly related to diet

They're all at school during the day, and my school is in the evening. I have nothing else do next to internet/computer. The people I consider as real friends are pretty much only contactable over the internet for me anyway... It's just that my world I constantly think it is so different to the things other people would talk about. When I hear casual chat about for example celebs, sports or any of such, I just get the feeling 'I can't believe you guys talk about such insignificant things'.

Perhaps I should just go out on my own and go jogging around here?

it's probably a passing phase, when a girl become a woman, they have this thing called "PMS" about a week every month. They then bleed immensley out of their vagina, but they don't die from it. They do however get extremley cranky and bitchy, and that's most likley what happened to you.

There is no known cure.

Lol, that should make me laugh, and there's the problem.
Also, I hope it didn't seem I meant that people having fun are retards, as I didn't.

Don't forget that it's important to talk about insignificant things (lol, contradiction). I mean, of course there are things much more important than celebs and stuff, but you should really try to just chat along and make jokes. It makes you feel better when people listen to you and/or laugh about your jokes, even though you're talking about insignificant things.

Perhaps I should just go out on my own and go jogging around here?

Well, that's a good idea. Jogging clears your head.
Maybe it's also a good idea to join some kind of club or something, idk. Just a suggestion.

The thing is that I'm absolutely not interested in any of that stuff, which makes me unable to chat along. And the things that I have on my mind are not to be talked with with other people, as that's a bit too 'weird' for them...

I've been thinking about that, but somehow I always got bugged off (if you even say it like that) for some reason. Plus I don't exactly have spare money at the moment.

Would you guys mind taking them down? It gives some people the idea I'm really going for it to be modded or something, why in fact, I am not at the moment. You all want it more than I do, seriously.

Why so serious

Start drinking!

No? Okay. Fine. But do go out somewhere, find some peeps to chill with. Go get lost in the woods with someone. Tip some cows. Something you don't normally do.

The 'someone' is the problem. This neighbourhood is filled with a bunch of elderly people who do nothing but mowing their lawn and gossiping about stupid shit.

Go to whatever norway has instead of malls. Like a snowbank or something, find some guys your age.

I only like being around a select few of my age. Mostly I find them very childish, and I guess that's part of my problem. Blegh, whatever.

I think it's time for you to Grow down. Just remember man, life is WAY too short to take anything too seriously. You need to live it up while you still can. I used to be like that. WAY too condescending about everything. Eventually i just learned how to see color again. (metaphor i'll explain in a second) It's absolutely changed my life. I mean, if i can go through being rich to homeless twice in a matter of 2 years, and still enjoy life like i never have before, (Without drugs) there's got to be SOMEthing going on.

As far as seeing color goes. It's an old game my mom used to play with me.

Basically in the car she would call out a color. And I would have to name off all the things that were said color.

She'd say red and all of a sudden the world seemed to be overflowing with red things. Signs, cars, buildings, clothes. Everything was red. But then, in almost an instant, she'd throw purple out there and BAM! Purple everywhere.

In retrospect, it wasn't about the colors, it was about teaching my mind to focus on certain things.
Like with the colors, as I would focus on the color red, all i could see was red things, or purple , or blue depending on the choice she made. When I focus on the exciting wonderous things in life, and don't even give the negatives a second glance, it's very easy to forget the annoying, bad, and obnoxious things in this world even exist.
(inb4 ZOMG you need to be aware of your surroundings and whats going on in your world) You can still pay attention to what people are saying and doing, but it makes it very easy to not get caught up when someone makes a mistake or does something stupid :)

ANYWAY :D That's my 2 cents. Take it for what it's worth and give me the change if you'd like.

Beggars can't be choosers.

If you're not willing to sacrifice, then stop moping around. YOU chose what to do with YOUR life NOT other people.

A great way to lighten up:

Watch a Godfrey Ho movie. Just pick any one, they are all classics.

Mmm, caffiene

I haven't slept for 2 days lol, I've been busy. I spent the first half of this night feeling like I was about to pass out, trying to work on the bibliography for a research paper (yawn) I've been downing can after can of Dr Pepper with no effect, until all of a sudden after an hour of blasting trance music to help me wake up, I feel a second wind and yay the caffiene is kicking in finally! :D The tingling in my brain feels awesome and I can actually think and see straight! MOAR!

Blocks

I need some advice guys. I've been suffering with a horrible block for.. well, about a year and a half now. My problem is, I can't finish songs. Sure, I come up with good demos that have potential and whatnot but I always lose interest due to the fact that I just have no idea what to add to them. It's like, once I get to a certain point in the song, I lose all my inspiration and creativity. My mind pretty much goes blank and I can't think of what to add next. Back when I first started producing, it would take me a day to finish songs. Now, I'll be lucky to have a minute done on a song after a week's time.

I love producing so much and I don't wanna' lose my drive completely because of this stupid block. Please, help me!

You're stuck in a rut. Try producing in a different way. If you don't keep your brain on its toes, it's harder to maintain neuroplasticity, which will almost certainly have an effect on your creative output.

Do you normally open up the piano roll and mouse the notes in? If so, try writing a chord progression, then jam along to it on a midi controller. Make sure you record the midi data so that you can go back and cut out all the awesome bits that you'll inevitably come up with.

Do you have a set of drum samples that you keep going back to? Try making some fresh new ones. Throw shit around the house and sample it. Kitchen cutlery crashing onto the floor is satisfying :)

Try using a different DAW. Try producing a genre that you'd never normally even listen to. Try producing a genre in the style of a radically different genre. Do a mashup. Make a song using only your voice. Make a song using only your various bodily functions. Draw random shit into the sequencer and quantise it till it sounds good. If you're starved for inspiration, go and sit in your garden on a sunny day, and absorb some fucking rays.

Well I had like a 3 hour nap this evening. That definitely helped. Though it was HARD to push through the early part of the night, once I got halfway it got easier from there.

I've tried producing other genres. I've tried exploring different ways of producing. I've even tried walking around the streets of my town hoping to find any small amount of inspiration but none of it worked.

It's not the way I produce that's 'causing the block I don't think. To better explain what I mean, I can start with any part of a song. The peak, the intro, the breakdown, etc and I'll nail it perfectly. It's after that point when I get stuck. It's like, I'm unable to have variety in my songs or something.. I'm not too sure on how to explain it.

Anyways, I'm starting to think this is a problem that I need to fix myself. My life hasn't exactly been perfect over the last few years and I'm starting to think maybe that's 'causing an impact on my creativity. Maybe I need to correct my perspective on life before I'll be able to produce at my full ability again? I still have one question though. Has anyone ever experienced a block that has lasted for this long and if so, how did you manage to get it to lift off your head?

Oh well, thanks for the tips Jarrydn. There's still some suggestions there that I'm yet to try so I guess I'll get started on those.

It's just called discipline. You need goals, a plan, and a deadline doesn't hurt either. Just sitting down and plinking away isn't the most constructive way to produce a song. Remove all distractions, and make sure you have a pretty clear image in your head of what you want to put together. It really doesn't hurt to treat production like a job.

Try to avoid producing late at night when you're tired. Get up bright and early in the morning, go for a stroll to get your creative juices flowing (I have my best ideas on the walk to work), then sit down at your workspace and get stuck in.

Now obviously there are many people who can put together a good track at 3am on the spur of the moment. But you certainly aren't doing yourself any favors this way.

That's interesting as I only try producing tracks during the evening and late night. Never really been one to produce stuff during the day or morning. I don't think it's the core of my problem but it's something I should consider before trying to produce. I'm definitely gonna' try taking a wander around tomorrow morning and see what it does for my music. Thanks for that!
