Apartment stuff
I found the best thing to do for food is have TONS of frozen stuff. i have been on my own since i was 17 and over the years i have learned that if your not cooking for a family you might as well have individual frozen meals that are easy to defrost and make..
for example
when you go shopping buy tons of meat products and separate them into ziplock bags with an individual serving in each bag.
vegetables: do the same. buy them fresh and freeze them in individual meals bags
keep tons of carbs in the house like instant mash potatoes, pasta, rice, glass noodles and ramen.
from scratch stuff and condiments: like sugar flour baking powder and soda spices and other condiments such as soy sauce hot sauce etc etc.
I try to make meals that go with bread since bread is filling and good if you get whole wheat goodness.
like french toast, egg sandwich or any other type of sandwich.
FISH: buy it fresh and always eat it the same day you buy it.. and if you cant eat it the same day keep it on ice in the refrigerator. Smelly fish is terrible and i love fish i hate seeing it ruined. Never freeze fish. as it thaws it starts to get that terrible fish store smell. fresh fish should never smell too much like fish.
CANNED FOODS: are great for making blended soups .. all you have to do it throw a bunch of canned stuff in a pot with some stock or broth (canned). heat it up with some spices and whatever you want in there and just toss it in the blender.. serve with parsley and a drizzle of olive oil and your done.
Peanut butter: have plenty on hand.. its just the perfect food at certain times.
Try to not eat processed foods too much. they arent good for you. Stuff like ramen noodles, pre made chicken pattys, some canned foods, TV dinners. they are all filled with chemicals and are terrible for you.
OIf you can shop organic and afford it, DO IT. the taste is so much better.
If on your way home from work everyday you pass a sup[ermarket. just go in a get yourself a simple dinner. i used to do this when i had a steady job. On the way home i would go to the store get myself a piece of protien, 2 veggies (1 colored, 1 leafy green) .. Then at home i would add a carb like rice or mashed potatoes.
WOW i really went off with this one.. well i love to cook and give cooking advice.
But really the more simple you keep your cooking the healthier you will be and the less mess you will have to clean up.
god luck chron.. if you need any simple recipes ill be more than happy to give you a few of my own homemade bachelor recipes LOL
