Hey I have a question regarding the "connection" between the music and the project that uses it.
It seems that the connection is missing and I think that it's pretty sad.

For example.

Some guy has decided to use my music in his movie project, made for the NATA contest.
He didn't ask for permission, but he did tag the music as a source, so now both the song and the video showcase each other.
But there wasn't any sort of a system notification about this ever taking place.

I find this quite sad, because I am one of those people who LOVES it when somebody finds my work good enought for further use.

Are you sure lol they just sang over it and that's it. It seems as if guetta puts in no effort at all.

I feel the same. It'd be an improvement if you get a notification every time something of yours is used in another project. Just like when you get a notification everytime you receive a comment.

Holy crap that's an awesome heater.

I was thinking the same thing actually. Does it make any noises? I used to live in a room with a really loud heater. Every hour or so it would go "CLONKCLONCKLOCNCKLCCOKCCLPCPCMCLMCM" and wake me up. Good thing I never actually sleep.

Also, fucking digging the use of kinnex. Living in a small space has changed the way I think about things. I have no kitchen so I just bought a cutting board that I use as a table when I need it. I temporarily set it up on top of my sink when I need to prepare food. Also, no cabinets so I just hang everything from the walls via push pins. I also got a double keyboard stand so that I can put my korg carrying case on the top one and have a desk. My room has slowly fleshed out into a cozy little modular space. I just wish I wasn't trying to move out or else I'd paint the damn place.

It doesn't really make any noises, but I've experienced that kind of heater before. Really awesome when you'd be trying to focus in class.

Then hook it up to your computer and program it, with perfect note length and velocity. Keeps that greasy "human touch" out of it.

I almost wish I was in the 9-5 grind... I'm sick of getting up at 6AM and working every weekend.

My username is Bosa and I don't know my IRL name so I can't offend myself as efficiently.

At 5/17/13 03:41 AM, Corbetto wrote: Headroom.
I hear musicians discussing it when talking about mastering/ mixing all the time.
Can someone explain what headroom is to me?

Headroom is the "distance" between a waveform and the 0 dB limit (i.e. the limit after which any audio gets clipped). It's marked in red in the picture below. Headroom is important for a variety of purposes. It's important to leave headroom if you want to send a track over to someone to master, for example. If you make it too loud and don't put any limiters or compressors over it, then the top and bottom parts of the waveform (called the 'peaks') get clipped out, and too much of this will create audible static/clicking noises (generally referred to as 'clipping'). You can't send a track to get mastered with the peaks clipped off, so headroom is important to make sure that the waveform is sent in its entirety.

When you want to make sure that a track has headroom, always check the loudest point of the waveform and make sure that there's some space from there to the 0 dB limit. Below, I've marked one of the loudest points of the waveform in black. There's no headroom over there, and the waveform's peak just about touches the limit. This is what good mastering involves; making sure the track is as loud as can be (without clipping the waveform) while still retaining suitable dynamic range (i.e. you don't want everything brickwalled like this in a dynamic orchestral piece). The rule I like to follow is that it's OK if a track doesn't have headroom and clips above the 0 dB limit as long as it's 1.) not too loud and 2.) it doesn't produce audible clipping noises.

Might have deviated from the subject a little but I hope I helped.

Excited, searched up Daft Punk's new album, and the first song that comes up: "Get Lucky" ...

and then, crying

-_____________________-

uploaded today solely for this purpose, extremely rough WIP based on guitar experimentation. Decided to put a hold on the project 3 years ago when someone told me it sounded too similar to another song from the 90s
too bad it actually didn't exist until recently. damn. exact. same. chords. and. chorus melody thing.
I may just continue it anyway, since it was nowhere near complete to begin with
pfft

My main question is, does this (likely 1990s) mystery song actually exist? Something that sounds like their new track or my own above? (Possibly a previous Daft Punk song?) O__O

I found some work that I could probably do. talked to a friend of mine and he said I could help work at the factory his grandpa owns.

basically they test vitamin water for bacteria and shit before they patch it up and sell it.

I could work as a janitor, designer, or assistant.

fuck yeah.
