It's funny because you're an audio mod so you have scouted WAY more artists than we have, which also means that you have much more nude pics than we have ;)

Maybe a nice idea for a thread? One were you can post who has scouted who. Or would that be against the rules.
Would it have any additional value to know who scouted you?

Well yeah it could have value

Because they're the reason I'm official on newgrounds

Who gives a fuck. Nobody thanked us the thousands of times we "approved" people to be musicians here. Being scouted is no different. It just means somebody out there doesnt hate your music. If they really thought you did something worth anything theyd review the audio and that would be worth much more.

Exactly my thoughts.

Whenever I scout someone I just leave a review which on the bottom says 'Btw I scouted you'. Deal with it.

Then my next question is: Who approved me? When was that? How does it work?
You know, when I first got here not too long ago I didn't even know how it worked, and I still don't really.
I was just posting music, hoping people would get to hear it. Then I read your channel had to get approved first, so I just posted another song each week, until after a month and a halve I suddenly received 5 messages (maybe less) on the same day in my inbox from people I didn't know who would "scout" me. I wanted to accept them all, but after I accepted the first one (I don't know by who that was) all messages disappeared. Then I read some more about being scouted, and I thought that was some new thing to replace the "approve" system. Now you tell me that also still exists?
Oh well. A big thank you to both the person who has "scouted" me and the one who has "approved" me. Let me know who to send the nude pictures to.

Here's a quick crash course on how it used to work. It doesn't hurt telling you since that system is long gone now!

The system before this one was just a basic approve/ban system. Whenever an artist posts a piece of music to the Audio Portal for the first time, it wouldn't appear anywhere until s/he gets approved. This artist's username would be placed into a waiting list that only audio mods could view. We'd have to go through all of the submissions of each username in the waiting list and press approve if we could find no rule-breaking, or ban if a rule was broken.

This would get very tiring because by protocol we'd have to listen to each submission in their entirety. Some unapproved artists would post some stupid amount like 20 - 30 submissions while they were on the waiting list and we'd listen to each one first before approving/banning. Most had one or two, some did have quite a few though. Trust me, listening to something like 2 hours of crappy FL preset music in one sitting was not easy! Not to mention the fact that the list would sometimes reach hundreds (occasionally over a thousand) and it took hours of our time. And I don't know about the others but I got no nude pics at all in return :(.

So then the system was changed to the current scouting system. Scouting is basically what 'approving' was in the old system. Anyone who's scouted can scout another artist, reducing the workload of the audio mods considerably.

This. It was pretty awful to sit through so many of them sometimes hours each day, only to see that the progress made had been undone the next day. I don't know what it works like now, but when I was on there, generally very few of the audio mods could really be bothered to work through any of them, often giving the feeling that only 1-3 mods were actually doing anything.

I think this was mostly due to how awful the process was. Good to hear that's all changed now though!

Glad you explained the old system to me. Glad it's gone by the sound of it. So I got it right after all when I thought the "approve" system was replaced by the "scouting" system. There's a lot of outdated or simply incorrect information about the Newgrounds rules when you try to look it up. Even some of the things you read on Newgrounds itself seem to stem from older systems sometimes.

it's fun to see how differently people react to the standard lock message

in other news, adding Newgrounds to my procrastination-killing browser app (which blocks selected sites for the rest of the day after you've used it for 10 minutes) for at least a couple of weeks... see you guys once in a while I guess

Do we have some kind of sound design thread here? I think it might be cool to have one for discussion sound design techniques and patch/VST/sample sharing.

Any interest in this? I might make an OP later
