I've cried during books a bit before. Usually only at specific parts that were especially emotional. But I just read Without You, and wow. I have never cried so much while reading a book. I cried through nearly the entire thing! I really enjoyed the book, it just brought up a lot of stuff I could kind of relate to I guess.

I also read Aquarius Revisited recently and it was a fantastic account of the 60s and key people who were influential in the movement of that time. I already loved Hunter S. Thompson, but I fell in love with Burroughs as well. Everyone mentioned in that book was just so awesome, even the author of the book seemed like a really cool guy.

Finally read Naked Lunch. I'd been meaning to for quite a while and expected it to be great. I was surprised to find that I didn't like it. But I kept reading it (reading it out loud brought out its beauty) and around page 50 I really fell in love with it. It was an enjoyable read and the style was unique and interesting. I loved it.

Either today or tomorrow I plan to start on Practical Ethics by Peter Singer and Created From Animals by James Rachels. Both should supplement my Ethics class. Another of Rachel's books is even required reading for the course! I already read my texts for the class, or at least skimmed them and I was pleased to see I'd read about every issue presented and was familiar with the people discussed. I have no excuse to do poorly in that course, haha.

The best books I've ever read are The Edge Chronicles, it's not written heaps well and was meant for children age 10-13 although it does have quite alot of gruesome things that probably don't fit that age range (torture, slavery, rituals etc.) but I like it becuase of the world the authors have created. The creature's and the way things work is just so interesting.

I really suggest you read... The Edge Chronicles!

Am currently reading "The Shadow of the Wind" by Charlos Ruiz Zafon, am only 5 chapters in but it's looking to be a good read, not the best thing I have ever read, but promising, was wondering if anyone else here has read it? Any opinions on it? Bare in mind I've not finished it yet so no spoilers.

I read them when I was a kid, I'll be honest I only read them because the illustrator (Chris Riddell) drew the pictures, I've got to say the books themselves were not that great. But if it gets kids into reading then fair enough. Riddell is easily one of my favourite illustrators, I did a project in college based on his style.

Dragonlance is what started me in the epic fantasy genre. I would suggest starting Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series if you haven't already. It's pretty much the undisputed king of the genre. Though be warned, if you plan on reading the entire series, it's probably a good 5 year commitment if you read at my pace.

Sounds like The Dark Tower Series. And the W.E.B. Griffen presidental series. I think he is still working on it. I have 2 out of the 5 books in the series. Is it true that The Dark Tower Series will never be finished? I have been hearing that for years.

The series is finished as far as I know. King released the 7th and final book in 2004. Granted, it took him 34 years to write the entire 7 book series, but no, it's all finished at this point.

I started reading the Dark Tower series, but once I got to book 5 I had absolutely no idea what the heck was going on. Heh, that seems to be my downfall with reading a series of books. I always try to split it up and read something in between, then forget what happened.

Woah, I forgot I posted here. I would still love to join up though.

My favorite genre would have to be juvenalian satire anyways. My favorite books of the genre are A clockwork orange, 1984, Catcher in the Rye, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Lord of the Flies, Fahrenheit 451, The Tortilla Curtain, and a bunch more.

Anyone else read juvenalian satire? And if so, can you recommend me some good books? I just can't get enough of it lately.
