I've always wondered, why put i before things?

Does anyone know why it is iUsed, or what the iHell it means?

other companies try to use it as well... its meant to me be like ipod is your pod, you can see the i as a verb or as a way of making it a personal thing... if they made it upod then it would be so personal ... would it..

I always thought it was short for 'information age' since so many other companies besides Apple use it, but apparently not. I found this forum here. The consensus seems to be that the 'i' stands for 'internet.'
