It's unfortunate, really. In such such a short time, YouTube has become one of the most popular internet websites of all time. I, myself, have a considerably successful channel.
But this is starting to become unacceptable. I'm sure most of you have heard of YouTube's new algorithm, which takes videos with "inappropriate" language or imagery, and removes them from the Most Viewed list. Their reasoning behind this is is still unclear, as the most popular videos on YouTube actually happen to contain such language.
Yeah, its a great idea to censor the people who make your money for you.
Mostly because of this, I have stopped making my own videos, and have decided to use my own website. And, I'm not the only one. Many people have had to repost their insanely popular videos elsewhere (i.e. The Angry Video Game Nerd)
Recently, they have also decided to block audio that violates copyright claims. They just don't take the movie down, they take the audio out. Which is great, getting to watch your music videos... Without the music. What's next, taking, "Numa Numa", because it was a stolen video? No, because its one of their most viewed of all time. Are they going to block Zack Kim, because he played music by Nintendo? No, because he's also one of the most viewed. Is Wikipedia going to block articles that violate copyright? No, because that's just ridiculous. YouTube was founded on providing network content online. Now, it's highly unlikely you'll find 25 seconds of your favorite TV show.
So its us little guys who suffer in the end. You may have a great video, or even short film, that would have been insanely successful 2 years ago, but because of this censorship, nobody is going to see it, because it has someone saying, "ass" in it. Nobody is going to hear it, because it has 2 seconds of, "For Whom The Bell Tolls". But does YouTube give a shit about all the stolen videos? No. The communities at Newgrounds, AlbinoBlackSheep, and other flash sites frequently have their work stolen. Will YouTube recognize their copyrights? Maybe.
Really, does it make any sense at all to do this to the people who make your money? We can all understand the audio thing, but the algorithm was chosen by YouTube to help protect the minds of all the 8 year olds watching Fred. I suppose now they're trying to work on a way to screw all of us over even more. We can only hope for the day the YouTube becomes so uninteresting that we have no reason to go there in the first place. Then, the geniuses that thought up the algorithm can proudly walk away will all their 13 cents the website has been able to produce since we left.
Written by this forum's very own Digital-Terror. Thought it was pretty interesting and relevant to this site for obvious reasons. As a site built on providing an outlet for independent artists how do you feel about youtube tightening the noose?

I couldn't agree more with all of it, it's fucking pathetic. Is there any similar video sites out there that we can all migrate to?
...
hmm i've noticed that many of my fav videos have been removed, >_< annoying.
I think it's fucking ridiculous that the sight has to do these things. Videos are being stripped of their music that is the only reason to watch in the first place. Record companies don't understand that youtube is one of the best ways to get their music out to people who haven't heard it? It's the Mtv of the internet but doesn't suck.

The only thing I can think of for now is try to get this one some attention and hope other people follow suite by making videos in protest. I favorited it and made a comment. If everyone who agrees with it does the same then it will be noticed and hopefully spark some discourse over the matter. Otherwise it's going to silently pass.

Sorry about double post but I don't really post anywhere else or talk to a lot of people online. If you guys do then show the video to your friends and basically just spread the word man. Creativity is being choked and it's a sad state of affairs.

Anyone else find it ironic that the video link was on youtube?

Veoh, in my opinion. Can't say I've used it outside of viewing series of whatever programs though, so I'm not sure about music videos, home videos, memes and such.

I think that's why it's on there actually. It seems like a direct address to youtube users who may not realize what is happening.
As an amateur film maker I have personal interest in this so I would personally appreciate it if you guys took the small extra time to comment/rate the video and maybe send the link to your friends or post is on other forums you may frequent.
This message needs to be spread as a great avenue for getting your work out is being neutered.

Damn Google. Why did you have to do that to YouTube? Hell, half of the videos there will be taken down or suffer any kind or alteration. Why? Because they contain "inappropriate language". Or because there's a bit of copyrighted material there. This is just ridiculous.
I wonder if Tom would consider a video portal of some sort.. If he does it right YouTube is just giving him traffic.. *cough*

Don't be a moron.
No it would only be like that if Tom stopped featuring flash that contained material deemed not family friendly. There is a huge difference and there is no reason to call me a moron. I'm just trying to spread the word that the slope on youtube is starting to slip.

It really is such a shame, I recently had 2 of my videos removed due to using semi-mainstream music, of which I added 2 years ago, it's just fucking stupid, there really is no point, but I do see comments around about how youtube is getting really bad.
I remember when youtube wasn't owned by google...
illicit makes a damn good signature.

Any chance I could get you to also post this comment on the youtube video? It'd be awesome if a debate among youtube users could develop on youtube itself and opinions like users such as yourself are what the cause needs. Perspectives from the people being affected.

Interesting.
I would prefer if ratings always chose what was featured on sites.

I don't deny anyone anything. I criticize the hypocrisy of claiming to be an outlet for expression and a network for sharing and then constructing the idea of what you think is creative and what you think should be shared.
...
Yeah, I'm going back to my original statement, you're a moron.
Well I'm not and your inability to do anything but ask questions which carry no implications as if you're some parable speaking prophet so far ahead of me that you need to form a riddle so that I can have time to catch up to your massive intellect as I solve it just makes me think you have an e-go which means you're probably social inept and have become quite confident by bullying those who lack the ability to form a proper arguments on message boards over the years.
Maybe a little long winded but at least I provided some reasoning with mine.

I don't like it. The governments are making new laws, forming bonds with the large companies, trying to cut down on all internet-related piracy, they seem to be taking things serioussly at last, but alas this will only move the forms of modern entertainment to new online portals. Of course they lose reputation, visitors, and all the good videos they have thus far hosted. They can't do much on their level though, staying usable in countries all over the world, it's the governments that need a lawful reform, asap.
TLDR, but i have the general gist. I had a Led Zeppelin Stairway to heaven Reverse / Forward song thing on my favorites. They literally took the music out of the video. Now there is absolutely no point to the video. Its actually pretty ridiculous.
What the heel. Somone needs to get a group of people to conplain or somthing. Youtube was awsome, and i had no clue about this. I wonder if it is going to start taking down vids that pake the piss out of fat people, then i would conplain.

Maybe a little long winded but at least I provided some reasoning with mine. The only reasoning needed to back up my statements is that it's their site, and they can damn well choose what they want on the front page, your claims that they are choking creativity are nothing short of ludicrous, because you can still upload your videos for free and other people can still watch them for free.
If you really REALLY want a solution to this pathetic little "problem" then why don't you get people petitioning the owners of Youtube to make an "Adult Features" page which is only accessible to people with verified 18+ accounts?
Of course you won't do that, that would be too sensible a solution, you'd rather bitch and whine about your freedom being removed.
Moron.
All I am doing is trying to spark some debate so it doesn't go unnoticed. You have provided a good idea and it's the type of thing that should be on the youtube comments page. You're just an egotistical prick with a need to project your perceived mental superiority over people by insulting them.
Take a step back from whatever emotional involvement you've invested into being hostile towards me and just discuss the issue. Things will be productive that way.
It's the internet and normally I'd be coming right back at you with my own clever insults but I actually care about this issue and would prefer to keep discussion focused on it and not petty arguments between myself and you or anyone else.

i seriously couldnt agree more
like theres always gonna be ways to get pirated music and clips of videos and everything
so just succumb to it and let ur music be noticed on youtube!

I am trying to get that group of people together right now. If you could lay out your concerns on the comments page of the video as well as here then you will help to get this attention by the youtube community at large. Once that fuse is lit the discourse will take care of itself. Help me light the fuse man.
Our chance to speak out is right now.

It finaly bit me. I just uploaded a Phoenix Wrong style video that used 4 diffrent music clips. Despite not even mentioning them their system detected a problem song and the sound was muted. I clicked a link under the message and you have choices; leave it as is, delete it, file a dispute witht the owner, or replace the song with one they have that's ok to use. Fair enough it seems.
I just deleted it. Went back to Movie Maker and cut that song out, then reuploaded it as a diffrent file (i wasn't really satisfied with that one anyway).
The song was "the Black Widow" by Alice Cooper (which is funny because i used a newer Cooper song in another vid' and it's still up.
And it was muted for another song now. So i removed it.
FUCK EM'
That's right I like guns and ponies. Problem cocksuckers?
Politically correct is anything that leftists believe.Politically incorrect is anything common sense. IMPEACH OBAMA.
People don't understand that when someone makes a YouTube video of copywrited content, it's basically a free ad that will run 24/7.
BUT NO, EVERYONE WANTS TO PAY FOR THEIR ADVERTISING.
YouTube will soon joined the ranks of internet has-beens if it keeps up the bullshit. They've given into the corporate monsters in such a way I never thought possible, and now they want to do this. "Jizz In My Pants" will certainly be off the "Most Viewed" list soon I bet you. Andy Samberg will NOT be happy. I know I wouldn't be if that was my video.
We must keep Google from taking over the internet. This is nothing but another reason to stick with Firefox, the best and less corrupted browser. If people download Chrome, they let Google literally take over their computer and their internet. Youtube is encouraging lame vlogs. People talking to their webcam about how they want to make the world a better place without hatred, violence and war. Little butterflies and flowers. I've watched Youtube live and a lot of it was just pop shit like on TV. The best thing was Bo Burnham, even though he censored himself when he said "shitload".
I WANNA HEAR GODDAMN SWEARING AND PEOPLE SAYING EVERYTHING IS CRAP, ok? I like Newgrounds because you can say racist jokes ; people understand you don't mean it.
