Maybe i should have made mine a funny submission. Seems to be the ones that get the most attention
Years from now, Little Aviator will still stand on its own as a timeless piece, independent of the holidays or time period. It's a disappointment not to win today, but in the long-term I think you'll be glad you made what you made.
The contests are becoming increasingly difficult because the results tend to haunt me for the long-term. For example, Halloween 2007... Blockhead Ghostmas was a great submission, an original character and a lot of effort, and it won the audience vote that year. It's still a great movie, but over time, I feel like Spooky Scary Skeletons is the submission that best defined that year, and it took fourth.
But another movie that didn't take first was also amazing and continues to hold up today:
I just have to remind myself that the contests are motivation for people to give themselves a deadline and create something competitive, and they will get to carry that creation with them for the rest of their lives, with or without proper acknowledgment from NG.
