You ever notice how whenever you're watching a movie or TV when a character is playing a game, they're always playing it wrong?

I remember in one of the Beethoven movies a couple of kids were "playing" Super Mario Bros. 3 and mashing their controllers at the same time and saying sometime like "Hey that was my powerup" "Don't worry, i'll let you get the next one", even though only one player plays at once.

And they always make up names for consoles and games, obviously to bypass any legal laws. But come on, do they live in some fantasy universe where they can play games that not even us gamers have heard of?

Stop it guys, we always notice.

I forgot the show, but I remember seeing a kid playing a Super NES with a Genesis controller.

There is no such thing as someone who doesn't like the PS3, there is only poor people who can't afford one. PS3 owners pity you and hope you can one day get out of poverty.

Just. Fucking. Wow. I've never really thought about this, but now that I think about it, it's more common than I thought.

I remember in the Forty Year Old Virgin, some of the characters were playing a Mortal Kombat game with something of definitely PS2 or higher graphical quality. However, one was using a gaming chair (not entirely implausible) but the other was using a N64 controller, and in addition was holding it completely wrong.

Next time do some research eh guys?

More importantly, what kind of guy works in a computer store and doesn't know how to handle an N64? Come on man. You're in your mid 20s, you have to have played it at some point!

In Charlie's Angels the two kids playing the game are playing an RPG game- a one player game and they're both playing it. Also, one of them repeatedly hits the controller as if its hectic when its an RPG and a slow paced one at that.
I also think its stupid when they hold controllers wrong (the N64 was the worst for it) and people play games on the fly without turning a console on at all.

Actually, they were playing Final Fantasy 8, and they were using a GF, a summoned creature which can be powered up by repeatedly tapping the square button, making the button mashing plausible. It doesn't have two-player, though.

Also, in the movie "The Wizard" there's a lot of this shit going on. A kid plays Double Dragon and gets 50 000 points in less than a minute. By randomly hammering the buttons... lulz

This is just one of the two reasons why I believe there should be a law barring any references of video games in Hollywood.

The other reason...look no further than the Mario movie.

Your forgetting. It's Hollywood. They ALWAYS fuck stuff up. They don't care if it's accurate or not as long as people like it and it brings in the bucks.
If you think video games are bad, if you're into trains they do even worse. Virtually NOTHING they put into movies about them is right. The only exceptions i've seen are Switchback, and The Polar Express (they actually did extensive research to get the train right in that movie). Here's a spoiler. If a train seperates into 2 parts (uncoupled) while moving, BOTH - PARTS - STOP. That's the safety feature of the brakes that Hollywood always convienently looks over.
Another example. Twister was ruined by some of the stunts they pulled like rolling an entire house onto the highway WHEN THE TORNADO WASN'T EVEN NEAR IT, and it just happens the tornado is smart enough to drop everything in front of the main characters as they flee. That's a level of stupidity over 9,000 there.
I'm sure there's other cases, i just can't remember them ATM.

"Oh yeah? Well i have the right to my opinion and my opinion is that you have no right to your opinion!" George Carlin. RIP old fuck.

Final Fantasy, see I thought it was that, I just wasn't sure. Both of them are button mashing which would negate it being plausible, also the fact that they're both playing shows they don't know they would be half correct in mashing the button.

Videogames suck in the media.

The only movie I think that has ever not been about movies but done it somewhat right, is Superbad. He's playing SWAT or something, and it's exactly how you feel when playing shitty FPS games like that.
