They're Power Metal.
Fact.

Actually, they're classified as Speed Metal. Much like Metallica is classified as Heavy Metal yet, at the same time, they're also Speed Metal.

I believe you mean...um thrash metal. Or at least older metallica before they started sucking.

I'd classify DF as both speed and power.

GOD FORBID A BAND BE TWO SUB GENRES OF MUSIC AT THE SAME TIME.

Ugh, I hate people who compare Dragonforce to bands completely unrelated that sound completely different.

I was only making a comparison between DF and Metallica because of the incredibly fast guitar solos and hard, heavy-hitting fast guitar riffs. >_>

Speed Metal is a genre of music that Power Metal developed from. So they're just Power Metal, as Power Metal implies its also Speed Metal as its Speed Metal + cheesey lyrics about fantasy stuff.

And they're not really that comparable to Metallica, cause Metallica have riffs and aren't really that fast.

WRONG! Have you heard the solos on Metallica's "Master Of Puppets?" All 8 of those songs have some very fast solos. Albeit that "Orion [Instrumental]" is not as heavy as the other 7, the majority of that album, has some very fast riffs. >_>

Yeah, all of Dragonforce's songs have lyrics about some big adventure, and usually have to do with light and/or darkness.

They're not anywhere alike, for one, Dragonforce's riffs are nowhere naer as hard and loude as Metallica's, and their solos are much faster than Metallicas.

And Blind Guardian and straotvarius are both power metal.

Most people would assume these two bands are complete different genres.

Although personally I disagree with it Metallica was classified as speed metal for years.

On the topic of lyrics:

DragonForce are Power Metal. They don't have to sing shit that makes sense. They just pencil down a load of shit about epic battles and fighting and fire and stuff and make it rhyme/fit into a time signature.

Such is the beauty of Power Metal.

On DragonForce VS Metallica:

How the hell did we start talking about this? They're nowhere near similar. Bar the fact that both Hammett and Li are borderline-virtuosos, but fall just short of the mark for some reason.

Metallica are Thrash Metal/Traditional Metal/Hard Rock
DragonForce are Technical Power Metal

Not really a lot to compare.

They're Power Metal with slightly faster than most PM bands solos.
And thats not even a genre, and if it was Symphony X and Angra would own him in it.

First of all, Hetfield is the rhythm guitarist. Hammett plays the lead.
Secondly, Hetfield would rape Li in terms of rhythm guitar.
Thirdly, Herman Li is crap. There is no way that man can play solos like that without having to do numerous takes or speeding them up. He sucks balls.

Not really... He played all his solos perfectly and to tempo last night... And so did Sam Totman. Speaking of last night, how much would people here pay for a beer bottle Herman Li drank from last night?

You don't ever say that again.

How do you think he does live shows? How do you think he does "numerous takes" while thousands of people are watching?

Up to $150, mainly because of the fact I could sell it for more.

He cocks up all the time. Plus mistakes are easily masked by loud volumes of the band, he can fumble stuff and it'll generally go unnoticed.
I've seen them three times, I know :P.

Things like that go for like £5-10 at the most.

I don't know how much that is in US dollars, but Im guessing less than 150. But if I put it up on Ebay, there might just be two collectors that'll start a bidding war. Hey, back in his day, a Michael Jackson beer bottle probably wouldv'e gone for a few k.

Its like $7-12.
And no one is collecting DraonForce stuff. Everyone has met DragonForce, or they could easily if they wanted.
Michael Jackson on the other hand is a recluse, very hard to meet... Oh... and he's a genius. A musical God.

Michael Jackson is NOT a musical god. Even in the '80s he wasn't. But lets get back to Dragonforce now.

Jackson, unlike Dragonforce, actually revolutionized the entire musical playing field of a decade.

Which doesn't mean he's a god, he just had a unique style. I'm not saying he's bad, though, he's very good. Just not a god.

I finally found a Dragonforce song thats good and different from the rest. Strike of the Ninja from Ultra Beatdown, has different guitar, catchy lyrics, and some beast drumming. I would really recommend listening. The only bad thing is that it's short, about 3 and a half minutes.
