What I don't understand is why most people have four times as much RAM as I do but only half the processor power, even though my computer is five years old already . . .

What is your computer's main purpose? Mine was intended just for school work and like office files, which I have a lot of, hence the large RAM size. But I'm looking to upgrade my HD to turn it into one more suitable for high-end gaming.

I'm running a custom built machine on a ECS KN1SLI Extreme motherboard. I'll probably be due for a new mobo, processor, and RAM combo in another year but Far Cry 2 and Crysis run well enough on it. There's also plenty of older games I own for me to plow through as well.

It is intended towards commonary office work, just like yours, so the mystery remains. I'll be buying a new one next year though, will need the extra speed by then.
