and ENTRY CHANGES are strictly NOT allowed as well! Though, you ARE allowed to "update" your already submitted entry!

Seriously though, I worked my ass off on this one, the bass especially took me a long-ass time to get just right even though it ended up being a relatively simple 3xosc. This is also my fist song to feature my newly acquired copy of Poizone for the lead synth.

I think I'll brush up on my guitar, drum, and piano skills for my second entry...

Seriously though, expression needs to be a consideration among the judges. Not everyone has a happy v day. In fact, it's the shittiest day of the year for some people :/

Also though I know VD is the saddest day for many people we had to pick a theme. The theme is as you know, a joyous melody. So again, we must judge based on that template.

bah. Let the next comp be a joyous shit pile. I couldn't care less if the track stan and I submitted doesn't make the list, but I'm getting a little annoyed at the recent trend in comp modding. I feel like perfectly good subs are getting recklessly discarded via a process that doesn't consider subjectivity a viable tool of expression. If you guys are uncertain as towards whether or not a song belongs in the comp, then let it in and let the judges decide the rest. I would think that the only songs that deserve disqualification would be the ones that have no justification.

I believe I need to cite the situation in 1917 when Duchamp submitted his piece "fountain" into an art exhibit that stated "all works would be accepted." Despite the open ended theme of the exhibit, Duchamps piece still got discarded and was removed from the exhibit. Some thought his piece was an offensive gesture, but Duchamp was entirely genuine with his feelings in that what he was doing was art. Today, his piece is considered by many to be one of the most important pieces of the 20th century.

I think what I'm trying to say is that if an artist is trying to convey an idea that has a relative alibi, don't censure them. People 100 years from now will think your an asshole.

You see what I did there? I totally just took that bulk of an argument and turned it into a joke. What a twist!

1. We allow all submissions in now. There is no more barring/excluding/weeding

with that said.

A competition is aimed at a goal. It's a challenge set forth from a source with reward to those who can tackle the challenge the best (best being subjective via collection of judge votes here). We never said that this particular MAC was that open ended. The challenge was, and quite simply is, make a joyous song that reflects love you'd feel for somebody else. To use the fact it's based on Valentines and make a sad song and then assume you can win when the challenge is so obviously different, is foolish.

That's like taking a test on math and then writing an essay on elephants on the sheet. Brilliantly written maybe, but irrelevant to the question at hand.

Which is why I said, do you want to make the song to win, or to express yourself? Because yes you can express your sorrow and submit to the MAC and we WILL allow it in the judge list (and you just know a bunch of flash animators are going to be looking for sad songs ;D), but don't expect to win this MAC with it.

Am I saying something wrong here?

In all honesty, I don't think some people plan on winning. Comps are a good source of extra exposure. Like I said, if the artist has appropriate justification, it shouldn't matter whether or not the sub fits the theme to a tee. I personally have always preferred expression over the idea of winning.

Maybe that's why I never win :p

I seriously hope that this is the last time in a while with a theme such as this one. I mean, the Macs recently have all been too... mushy. Y'know, warm and fuzzy and positive and stuff.

First we had "Dang, I wanna kill myself 'cause I'm depressed" Mac, then the "Nice plane in the sky pic" Mac, then the "Oh, I'm gonna conquer NewGrounds, yay" Mac, finalized with this months "I wuv you and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy" Mac.

Why don't we have a "I want to throttle the life out of this small, furry animal" Mac? That Madness Mac was really a breath of fresh air from all of this emotional stuff. Am I the only one that feels this way?
